Job summary

A leading research institute in Cambridge is seeking a Research Assistant in Technical GIS for a fixed-term role in the Mapping Archaeological Heritage in South Asia project. The successful candidate will manage data and utilize GIS and remote sensing methods to map archaeological sites. A first degree in a relevant field and strong GIS skills are essential. The position offers a salary of £33,002-£35,608 for 24 months. Ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills and experience in working with geospatial datasets.

Qualifications

  • Educated to first degree level in a relevant discipline.
  • Excellent knowledge of GIS and Remote Sensing methods.
  • Some practical experience of working with geospatial datasets.
  • Desirable: Experience of mapping and analysing hydrological networks.
  • Desirable: Understanding of relational databases.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the use of historical maps, GIS, and remote sensing.
  • Map archaeological sites across the Indus River basin.
  • Prepare data for entry into a database.
  • Engage in identification of archaeological sites using remote sensing.
  • Support ground-based verification fieldwork.
