Job summary

A medical devices company in the UK is seeking an experienced Health Safety and Sustainability Officer. You will oversee the health, safety, and sustainability strategies while ensuring compliance across multiple sites. The role offers hybrid working with at least 3 days per week presence in Ely and Cambridge. Qualifications

  • Experience in a health, safety and sustainability position across a multi-site organisation.
  • Good working knowledge of digital health safety and environmental management systems.
  • Excellent quality written communications for various audiences.
  • Excellent customer service, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in environmental and sustainability regulation and reporting.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate independently.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of all HSE strategy, systems, and policies.
  • Ensure all HSE assurances and legal compliance are sustained.
  • Collect data to measure and report on outcomes.
  • Work with Heads of Department to ensure adherence to systems.
  • Close investigations and audits to ensure consistency.
  • Produce detailed sustainability reports for management.
  • Drive sustainability improvements by monitoring environmental impact.

Health Safety and Sustainability Officer

We’re looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Sustainability professional to join our growing business. With overall responsibility for Health, Safety and Sustainability, you’ll be focused on keeping our daily activities safe while also working hard to improve CMR’s sustainability.

This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days a week based across our Ely and Cambridge sites.

Responsibilities
  • Ownership of all HSE strategy, systems, processes, policies and improvement plans, with the aim of a Company‑wide positive HSE culture achieving clear objectives.
  • Ensure all HSE assurances, accreditations and legal compliance are in place and sustained, including manufacturing processes and workplace tools and equipment.
  • Collect data to measure and report on Sustainability and Health and Safety outcomes; propose ongoing improvements
  • Work with Heads of Department to ensure the Company Health, Safety and Sustainability systems are adhered to by all the staff to ensure a positive culture of compliance.
  • Owning the close‑out of investigations, audits, and similar activities to ensure consistent quality and robustness.
  • Produce detailed sustainability reporting and feedback to top management as well as customers.
  • Be a driving force for sustainability improvements at CMR by monitoring our environmental impact and proactively identifying opportunities for improvements.

We’d expect you to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the Health Safety and Sustainability remit that helps the team deliver its objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have/be:

Skills and Experience
  • Experience in a health, safety and sustainability position across a multi‑site organisation.
  • Good working knowledge of digital health safety and environmental management systems and current legislation & best practice.
  • Excellent quality written communications – whether training materials, investigation reports or C‑suite slides.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: customer service influencing, negotiation and problem solving.
  • Experience in environmental and sustainability regulation and reporting.
  • Self‑motivated, able to operate independently and own your own HSS practice.
Qualifications
  • NEBOSH certificate in occupational health and safety or equivalent.
  • Membership of recognised industry body would be beneficial
