Senior Mechanical Engineer – Manchester

My client, a market leading Building Services Consultancy who specialise in sustainable infrastructure and innovative low carbon builds, are searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Manchester.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will join a supportive team based in Manchester to complete sustainable HVAC designs for education, healthcare, leisure, residential, and commercial developments across the UK.

As Senior Mechanical Engineer you will be expected to complete detailed mechanical designs including heating, ventilation, plumbing and air‑conditioning using AutoCAD and Revit.

You will also be expected to complete 2D and 3D models, perform heat load calculations, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and equipment selection using relevant software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, or Elite).

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review mechanical drawings, schematics, simulations and technical specifications in accordance with building codes, sustainability goals, and project requirements.
  • Design to BIM level 2 in accordance with British Standards PAS 1192‑5.
  • Collaborate with electrical, plumbing, and structural engineers to ensure coordinated MEP layouts.
  • Attend internal and client meetings to resolve design issues/queries and align project objectives.
  • Review designs submitted by the team and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information).
  • Site visits to monitor installation quality, verify compliance with original designs and highlight issues during construction.
  • Evaluate new materials and designs ensuring energy efficiency and cost‑effectiveness.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Manchester

A well‑established award‑winning multi‑disciplinary consultancy has an immediate requirement for an experienced senior level mechanical design engineer to join their design team in their Manchester office.

It is essential that you have experience within the automotive, commercial/industrial, retail, residential and education sectors and experience in clean/dry rooms desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management of medium to large scale projects and individual engineering tasks for numerous schemes.
  • Creation, development, and finalising engineering design solutions of mechanical services elements.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years post‑graduate "hands‑on" design experience in building services consultancy.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with either the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
  • Degree and/or masters in building services/architectural engineering.
  • Accreditation via appropriate Institution (CIBSE Energy Assessor Scheme).
  • High level of computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Autodesk Revit MEP, Cymap.
