Job description
GCSE English Tutor (Junior Apprentices) - FTC until July 2026

Salary: £25,374 - £49,937 pro‑ra per annum (dependent on experience)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Apprentice English Tutor at our City Centre Campus on Dumballs Road. The Junior Apprentice Programme is aimed at Key Stage 4 learners who are disengaged in mainstream learning for various reasons. Our learners come from 22 schools across the Cardiff & Vale area and study with us for two years. The programme is vocational based, giving learners the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and qualifications in their chosen pathway. We run five pathways as part of the programme – Hair & Beauty, Catering & Hospitality, Multi Trades (Plumbing, Construction and Automotive), Health & Social Care and Digital Creative.

Responsibilities
  • Teach GCSE English to the Year 10 and Year 11 Junior Apprentice cohort and act as course tutor for at least one JA group.
  • Undertake all pedagogic work such as lesson preparation, classroom teaching, tutorial work and marking.
  • Conduct student assessments to place students, monitor progress and identify learning support needs and exam access arrangements (EAA).
  • Provide appropriate student support to meet both academic and welfare needs of learners and record all relevant information on the College systems.
  • Demonstrate good working knowledge of GCSE English qualifications, as per WJEC criteria for delivery to Year 10 and Year 11 learners.
Qualifications & Experience

You will be educated to degree level with a recognised teaching qualification. You will also have knowledge of teaching WJEC English qualifications specifically the new curriculum in Wales. Knowledge and experience of teaching Junior Apprentices in a classroom environment would be advantageous. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable but not essential for this role.

In return we offer fantastic benefits including a generous pension scheme, access to various discounts at online and high‑street retailers through our Reward Gateway scheme, Cash Health Plan and access to exciting career pathways at the college.

Please note that this is a Fixed Term Contract until July 2026.

The closing date for completed applications 27/11/2025 at 11:59 pm.
