Job description

To be part of a team passionate about giving the best possible care to our rescue dogs, this role suits you if you relish being active and spending time offering daily care, training, enrichment and rehabilitation to dogs on the way to finding suitable new homes deserving of their love and loyalty.

Reporting to

Head of Rescue & Rehoming

Contract and Hours

Full time, fixed term contract for 6 months which may be extended.

Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on a two‑week rolling rota. 24‑hour cover on a rota basis.

  • Enthusiastically contributes to our aim of providing quality care for rescued and abandoned dogs and finding them suitable homes.
  • Keen to help maintain and increase support for SDR’s activities with the general public, potential donors, other animal welfare organisations and stakeholders.
  • Recognises the importance of representing the charity in a professional & caring manner.
  • Happy to help implement initiatives as directed by management or the Board of Trustees.
  • Enjoys acting as an integral part of the SDR team of staff, management, Trustees, members and volunteers.
Knowledge and Experience (essential)
  • Understanding of animal care and behaviour.
  • Previous experience of working in kennels, ideally within a rescue & rehoming environment.
Skills and Abilities (essential)
  • Dog handling aptitude.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team.
  • Full UK manual driving licence required; will drive the charity’s vehicle.
  • Flexible working basis (including weekends and bank holidays).
Interview Process

Job will close on Thursday 15th January.

1st round of interviews Thursday 22nd / Friday 23rd January.

2nd round interviews: trial day and practical exercises during the week commencing Monday 26th January.
