Job description

Do you like working out in the field and dealing with customers? Are you interested in operating supply networks? If so, we have a great opportunity for you within our Operations team as a Distribution Inspector in the Somerset and Dorset region.

What you'll do

Distribution Inspectors are a crucial part of the Supply Networks team, which manages the 24/7 operation and control of the water supply network, ensuring it delivers the continuous and high-quality supply that our customers expect.

You'll work across the north distribution part of our region, covering areas such as Somerset and Dorset, and you will be provided with a company van to help with your travels.

You'll be trained and coached to provide solutions to network and customer problems, as well as to routinely inspect the important assets that form the supply network. You will be the point of contact for resolving incidents, providing advice and dealing with various issues for planned and reactive work.

The main duties of your role will include the day-to-day operation of the supply distribution network, including the mains network, booster stations and service reservoirs. You will also plan for network operations to ensure maintenance activities can be undertaken with minimal impact on the network and customer.

What you'll need

You need to be a strong and motivated team player who is proactive, practical and a great problem solver. You will be able to make decisions under pressure while also being able to provide flexible cover within the team.

You will be able to work independently in and out of normal working hours – standby work is essential.

In addition, you must have:

  • good IT skills
  • a full clean driving licence
  • effective communication
  • a can-do approach to work
  • the ability to work in accordance with our health and safety policies and safe systems of work.
What you'll receive
  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
