Main Function of the Role

Following the acquisition of Hermes Investments by Federated in 2018, strategic initiatives to harmonise processes and practices are a strong element of the global change agenda. This role will provide Investment Operations BAU and change management support within a programme of work designed to reinforce firm‑wide integration, create opportunities for commercial growth, and deliver operational efficiency improvements across the US and UK. Phase one of harmonisation is adoption of a consistent Trading Order Management System (OMS). Federated Hermes Limited will move from the current OMS to new Equity and Fixed income OMS platforms consistent with the US office, creating a harmonised global model. A key component is to define and establish a consistent global data model and data support operating model.

The role holder will provide day‑to‑day data operations coverage supporting the increased and more complex data operations model as we navigate creation of a uniform data architecture and migrate and consolidate data to support the future state operating environment. A strong Data platform is an important foundation and critical to the success of the TOMS interim model.

This role sits within Investment Operations reporting to the Head of Data Operations. With significant subject‑matter expertise, the Data Manager will interact closely with Senior Data Analysts, the Head of Data Operations, and the Middle‑office Senior Management Team. The holder will work with business intelligence and reporting services for Investments, Risk, Client Reporting teams, Business Development, Product Development, Finance & Marketing. Responsibilities include improving data quality, resolving complex queries, recommending and implementing improvements to processes and controls, and engaging with project teams supporting business changes.

The primary focus of the team is ensuring data feeds from service providers and market data vendors are processed into investment management and reporting systems and controlled on an exception basis, and that master data sets such as securities and other reference data are maintained to a high standard. The role holder will also be involved in system and business change, support development of data strategy and governance, and drive ongoing improvements to data quality and control globally.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Develop strong relationships with key client and stakeholder groups including Investments, Risk, Business Development, Operations, and IT to understand needs and improve data services.
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of business intelligence and reporting services, mapping data flows and quality management processes supporting data delivery for investment decision‑making.
  • Operate robust data controls on data received from NT and market data vendors, ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain master data sets such as securities, accounts, share classes and counterparties to a high standard.
  • Competently perform all ‘business as usual’ activities, progressing towards expert level on majority of tasks.
  • Maintain and build a strong knowledge base on data elements of products and all asset classes.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis of data exceptions, identifying actions to prevent recurrence such as improvements in source data, system processing or additional controls.
  • Maintain team procedures and documentation (process diagrams, data dictionaries) to a high standard.
  • Oversee delivery of work rota, checking completion of all daily and monthly tasks, support training of other team members and review of work performed by others.
  • Challenge processes and continually improve data quality controls through understanding of data content, usage, business impact and risk.
  • Contribute to data operations team on change initiatives and projects through proactive engagement with change teams, early design consideration, subject‑matter expertise, planning and executing UAT.
Minimum Experience Required
  • Strong experience using data management tools and investment management systems (e.g., MarkitEDM, EAGLE, thinkFolio, Charles River, Bloomberg).
  • Experience in complex query management.
  • Strong data analysis capabilities using business intelligence tools, MS Excel or SQL.
  • Deep knowledge of all major asset classes: equity, fixed income, derivatives and their data characteristics.
Candidate Profile
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple activities concurrently.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, capable of logical thinking, initiative, and lateral thinking to resolve complex operational challenges.
  • Deadline and results focused; able to deliver solutions under time‑sensitive deadlines.
  • Co‑ordination skills with multiple stakeholders.
  • Collaborative teamwork orientation.
