Job description

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to work with the Derby Collection. This role is based within the ancestral home to the Earls of Derby, Knowsley Hall, which is one of the North-West’s oldest stately homes and has a fascinating history. The substantial Derby art Collection have been formed by successive Earls of Derby over the last 6 centuries but until this generation have been largely unknown. The current Countess of Derby has worked with the curators since 1995 to share the treasures with art historians and scholars to learn more about this world class collection through the means of exhibitions, study days, documentaries, podcasts, and guided tours. Lord and Lady Derby have spent the past 30 years restoring the Derby houses and collections to their former glory. Lady Derby has managed the conservation of the collections following the advice of the curators which includes a world class collection of paintings, a famous natural history library of watercolours, beautiful furniture, and decorative arts, all supported by an extensive family archive.Our ideal candidate will be an experienced Curator with a degree in Art History or related field. They will be committed to high levels of communication, organisation, and show a real passion for art and cultural heritage. Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are essential.
