Overview

Role: Communications Specialist - Midlands and East. The role leads the development and delivery of integrated communications across central, regional, and local platforms—bringing the Guide Dogs brand to life and driving national and regional awareness. You’ll be at the heart of storytelling, media relations, and brand activation, engaging audiences from service users and volunteers to staff and supporters, and shaping how Guide Dogs is seen and heard across the Midlands and East.

Responsibilities include advising and training staff and volunteers, managing volunteer media champions, and ensuring all communications, online and offline, reflect the charity’s mission and regional context. You’ll be part of an out-of-hours duty rota, ready to respond in times of crisis and protect the organisation’s reputation. The nominated office for this role is the National Centre in Leamington Spa. Regular travel across the Midlands and East region is required. Hybrid working arrangements are supported.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and delivery of integrated communications across central, regional, and local platforms to bring the Guide Dogs brand to life and drive national and regional awareness.
  • Lead storytelling, media relations, and brand activation; engage audiences including service users, volunteers, staff, and supporters.
  • Shape how Guide Dogs is seen and heard across the Midlands and East.
  • Advise and train staff and volunteers; manage volunteer media champions; ensure all communications reflect the charity’s mission and regional context.
  • Be part of an out-of-hours duty rota to respond in times of crisis and protect the organisation’s reputation.
  • Travel regularly within the Midlands and East region. 35 hours per week, typically 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Work from the National Centre in Leamington Spa with presence in the office at least two days per week; remaining time may be spent remotely or at other sites as appropriate.

  • Willingness to travel regularly within the Midlands and East region.
  • Experience in communications, media relations, and brand activation within a charitable or similar context is implied by responsibilities.
