A creative arts organization in the United Kingdom is seeking an associate graphic designer to collaborate on producing high-quality visual assets across both digital and print formats. This freelance role will involve working on multiple projects, contributing imaginative ideas, and paying close attention to detail while adhering to brand guidelines. Candidates should possess strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite and be prepared to manage various design projects, occasionally liaising with team members and print suppliers. Remote work is possible, with potential site visits required for collaboration.
We are looking to appoint an associate graphic designer to work with us on a freelance basis, supporting the creation of high-quality visual assets across both digital and print formats. This role will involve working across multiple projects within our programme, collaborating closely with our internal team, commissioned artists, and local communities to help bring each project’s ideas and values to life visually.
To apply, please select three examples from your portfolio that demonstrate your experience of developing a coherent set of printed campaign assets for an arts, cultural or community-focused organisation.
Alongside this, please provide your CV and a short written statement explaining why you are a strong fit for this associate role, including relevant previous experience, how you have worked with different stakeholders in the past, and your approach to collaborative, values-led design (no longer than 500 words).
The design fee will be different for each commission – please can you quote us for the Edinburgh commission, listed below, and provide an outline of how you would go about producing this piece of work.
In your application, please can you also include three testimonials from organisations you have previously worked with (these can be in addition to the 500 words).
The role suits someone who enjoys generating fresh, imaginative ideas; is confident delivering polished outputs; and can prepare high-quality, print-ready files. Attention to detail is important, as all outputs must align with established brand guidelines while still feeling dynamic and project-specific.
In practice, the role will involve designing campaign assets for print, such as concept design, document templates, and printed publications; interpreting creative briefs and turning concepts into strong visual executions; and managing multiple design projects to deadline. You may occasionally be asked to liaise with print suppliers with guidance from the LeftCoast team, and you will be encouraged to contribute ideas during campaign brainstorming sessions, presenting different creative approaches where appropriate. Maintaining visual consistency across campaigns, understanding visual hierarchy and layout, knowing how to connect with different audiences, and staying up to date with current design trends and tools are all key aspects of the role. A strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is essential.
Collaboration is central to how we work. You will be expected to work closely with the LeftCoast team, as well as with artists and community members, responding openly to feedback and contributing positively to shared creative processes. The role can largely be carried out remotely, though there may be occasions where site visits are required in order to better understand projects and to collaborate in person.
The first commission for this associate role will be the design of campaign assets for our Edinburgh Fringe Festival production, The Land Beneath Our Feet, a one-man play by Nathan Parker. This will include printed leaflets for street distribution, posters for the venue, and a programme. A full brief will be provided on appointment. For most commissions, core artwork, photography and copy will be supplied, though you will be responsible for bringing these elements together into cohesive and compelling designs.
