Academy Strength & Conditioning Coach (Casual)

Salary: Competitive hourly rate, TBC on interview

Location: MFC Academy, Well Hall, Kidbrooke Lane, Eltham, SE9 6TE

Responsible to: Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine

Hours of work: Casual Hours (minimum 14 hours a week Monday – Saturday)

Role Summary: As part of the clubs Sports Science & Medical department, this role is to lead the athletic development sessions for the club’s foundation phase players and youth development phase players (9‑14 s) in line with Millwall Football Clubs Academy philosophy and athletic development syllabus. Working within an MDT you will be required to work alongside technical and medical staff to deliver all aspects of Sports Science/ Strength and Conditioning, exceeding the requirements of a competitive Category 2 Academy as determined by the EPPP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional physical performance support for all registered Academy players (9‑11 s) in line with the physical department’s syllabus.
  • Organise weekly training plans and long‑term programmes for academy age group players; primary responsibility for the U9‑U14 age groups, including transition players.
  • Ensure Sports Science & S&C provision—including on‑pitch athletic development session plans, gym sessions, physical testing and growth & maturation testing—are uploaded to the appropriate databases within 24 hours.
  • Implement and evaluate testing and monitoring practices to inform practice.
  • Educate technical staff to maintain age‑appropriate best practice.
  • Program and deliver all gym, rehab, and pitch‑based sessions.
  • Contribute to player reviews and audits to assess performance and potential.
  • Monitor growth and maturation and implement appropriate strategies to aid player development and maximise availability.
  • Assist other members of the performance and medical department as required.
  • Maintain suitability of language, behaviour and demeanour when working with children and adults at risk; undertake training in safeguarding.
  • Take responsibility for the welfare of children in your care.
  • Undergo a criminal disclosure and identity check.
Qualifications
  • BSc Sport & Exercise Degree (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience of delivering to youth athletes (paid or volunteer)
  • Strong understanding of youth athletic development

  • UKSCA Accreditation (or working towards)
  • BASES Accreditation (or working towards / desire to obtain)
