JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Tax Compliance Supervisor
Department: Tax Department
Reports to: Tax Manager and/or Tax Director
Purpose of the role:
Assist in supervising tax department staff, advise on tax compliance issues, research tax information, process queries, liaise with SARS, manage workflow, ensure quality of work related to audits, tax returns, objections, appeals, and disputes.
Academic Qualifications:
- Grade 12 with accounting subject
- Tax or relevant qualifications with 5+ years of experience
- Experience in a tax environment is essential
- Registered Tax Practitioner or eligible for registration
Skills, Competencies, and Experience:
- Interpersonal and numeric skills
- Ability to interpret tax laws (Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act, VAT Act)
- Meticulous work with minimal supervision
- Proven liaising with SARS
- Strong knowledge of tax compliance and law interpretation
Computer Packages:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- GreatSoft
- SARS E-Filing
- Knowledge of Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act, SARS dispute resolution, LexisNexis (advantageous)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise tax staff and assist with complex tax return completion
- Manage provisional tax and deadlines
- Oversee dispute resolution process, draft objections and appeals
- Advise clients on basic tax queries
- Prepare and review tax calculations and returns
- Handle SARS response letters and deadlines
- Manage SARS documentation and notifications
- Assist compliance officers with returns and tax administration
- Resolve GreatSoft and tax-related issues
- Manage monthly provisional tax runs and queries
- Ensure timely delivery of documents and payments to SARS
- Follow up on client payments
- Update and monitor lists related to refunds, disputes, and returns
- Resolve assessment disputes and assist with tax exemption applications
- Coordinate SARS visits and appointments
- Log and monitor tax queries for directors
- Manage SAIT learners' training
- Report progress in monthly meetings
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, SOQM, and conduct codes

Work independently under supervision, support administrative processes and work matters as outlined.
