Overview

Summary

Under general supervision is responsible for the day-to-day throughput of the Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL) / Electrophysiology (EP) lab. Assist management in overseeing scheduling and coordinating of the work assignment and call coverage to staff under his/her direction. Under general supervision, may assists physicians in performing invasive and noninvasive cardiac, electrophysiology, structural heart interventions, and vascular procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL) and or Electrophysiology Lab (EP).

Responsibilities
  • Assists management in planning, organizing and directing the daily operations of the department. Establishes work priorities, lab assignments, adjusts assignments as needed, monthly work and call schedules. Coordinates and assigns meal/break times for all unit personnel.
  • Demonstrates and maintains effective communication skills with management and the interdisciplinary health care team. Able to reasonably accommodate multiple and sometimes conflicting requests for schedule time, equipment, and supplies to facilitate the efficient throughput of patients in the Cardiac / EP labs.
  • Assures compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards. Is knowledgeable of and applies current regulatory and accreditation requirements including the Ohio Department of Health and Joint Commission.
  • Extracts and documents all pertinent pre-procedural information obtained from patient and medical record.
  • Prepares patients for procedures using proper positioning and surgical prep of procedural site(s).
  • Maintains sterile technique while assisting physician during cardiac adult and pediatric / EP/ vascular procedures. Requires the ability to prepare instruments equipment and medications before and during Cardiac/ EP/ Vascular; assists physician in cardiac/ vascular/ EP/ pediatric procedures.
  • Operates digital medical and fluoroscopic equipment during procedures.
  • Continuous monitoring of patient condition through interpretation of EKG and hemodynamic waveforms.
  • Requires documentation of procedural events and ensures accuracy of recorded waveforms and calculation. Finalizes procedural reports and transfers all images and hemodynamic information to the server.
  • Loads automatic injector with contrast media and injects via catheter at a rate of volume selected by physician.
  • Uses provided computer applications to ensure accurate charge capture on procedural and supply charges.
  • Requires stocking and inventory of equipment and supply readiness utilizing hospital inventory system.
  • Participates in unit performance improvement / quality management measures.
Licensure/ Certifications
  1. Must be RCIS credentialed through Cardiovascular Credentialing International and/or RT through ARRT with special procedures experience and/or cardiac catheterization experience.
  2. Must have BLS / ACLS certification.
  3. Must have basic dysrhythmia course.
Qualifications
