Position Specific Description

Responsible for understanding and applying FPSC and FERC rules, practices, and regulatory principles in determining appropriate regulatory treatment and accounting for FPL and any of its regulated subsidiaries. The Principal Accountant will be charged with making accounting entries (if needed), providing direct support for any docket with accounting implications, and ensuring final orders are implemented correctly and timely. Activities include testimony and discovery drafting, accounting witness support, and other docket-related activities in either jurisdiction.

This position can be based at our Juno Beach, FL or Miami, FL locations

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Understand and accurately apply FPSC and FERC rules and regulatory principles to determine proper regulatory treatment of FPL and its regulated subsidiaries.
  • Recommend appropriate accounting treatment for transactions requiring regulatory approval in accordance with GAAP, FERC, and FPSC guidelines.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to other departments and business units within FPL and its regulated subsidiaries to assist decision-making and proper regulatory treatment and reporting.
  • Serve as point of contact for assigned dockets, including research, testimony and discovery responses drafting, and support to the assigned accounting witness throughout the docket until a decision is received from the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Ensure that approvals from the jurisdictions are implemented timely and properly in the books and records of the pertinent regulated entity.
  • Coordinate or record accounting entries related to specific docket transactions (e.g., transaction costs for a specific FERC docket).
  • Interface with Deloitte and Internal Auditors as needed.
  • Maintain accounting control procedures and SOX compliance (if applicable) and assist the SOX team with related questions.

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certificate preferred
  • Minimum of five years accounting or financial experience required
  • Public Utility experience is highly desirable
