Job description
Overview

40517BR – Intermediate Electrical Specialist at CDM Smith. CDM Smith offers opportunities to work on electrical engineering design and construction projects, including complex power systems, observation and construction services, and power system analyses. You will collaborate on meaningful work that positively impacts the community while applying innovative software and programs. We offer flexible work options and a sign-on bonus may be considered for the successful candidate. We have multiple openings for Intermediate Electrical Specialists.

Responsibilities
  • Create basic to moderately complex designs of electric master system plans, power system, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other similar electrical systems.
  • Execute a variety of electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components, and refining rough sketches.
  • Incorporate changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects. Contribute to studies of power systems and electrical calculations for electrical systems, lighting simulations, lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, security and other similar calculations.
  • Perform site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications. Update design requirements as necessary.
  • Contribute to the firm\'s Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. Submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs). Review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices.
  • Attend conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm\'s products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing power systems for water, wastewater, industrial, federal, and transit facilities.
  • Experience designing medium and low-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Familiar with industry and federal codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEEE, UFC, etc.).
  • Experience conducting power system analysis using software such as SKM Power Tools for Windows and ETAP.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills with the ability to engage clients and convey complex concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Possesses excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Background Check and Drug Testing Information

CDM Smith may require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc., and may conduct drug testing for designated positions. Background checks are conducted after an offer of employment in the United States. The timing for checks outside the United States varies by country, but will not precede an interview. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Criminal history will not automatically disqualify a candidate. Additional checks may be required during employment.

Pay Range

Minimum: $71,094

Maximum: $117,333

Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.

Work Location Options

Hybrid Work Options may be considered for successful candidate.
