Job description
Overview

Join to apply for the Software Developer, Services role at Slice. This position is open to applicants across the UK on a remote basis, with the office located in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Slice was founded to help local pizzerias compete with major franchises without sacrificing their independence. We empower thousands of restaurants with technology and services to better serve their digitally minded customers. As an engineer on our Services team, you will contribute to solving meaningful problems for restaurant partners and their customers.

The Challenge to Solve

How do mom-and-pop pizzerias survive and win in a world of big-budget pizza chains and third-party apps? Slice aims to close the online sales gap for local pizzerias and provide them with the technology and capabilities of larger players. Our goal is to feel as if shops have hired 1,000 people to support their business.

What You’ll Do
  • Build innovative features and services: design, code, and launch new backend features to help restaurant partners operate more efficiently and deliver seamless experiences to customers.
  • Identify game-changing opportunities: look for asymmetric opportunities where small technical changes yield disproportionate value.
  • Own projects end-to-end: take ownership from concept through production, collaborating with product and design to define solutions and iterate based on feedback.
  • Use the best tools for the job: primary stack is Python (Flask); you may work with Go, Ruby, or other technologies to solve tasks at scale.
  • Collaborate in a small, agile team: work with a tight-knit group of backend engineers across the US, UK, and Europe, review code, brainstorm, and maintain a supportive culture.
  • Ensure quality and performance at scale: apply best practices in coding, testing, monitoring, and DevOps; own your code from unit tests to production reliability.
What We’re Looking For
  • Owner’s mindset: take initiative, own problems end-to-end, and move quickly to deliver impact in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Proven builder: experience crafting scalable backend systems in Python (Flask), with databases and cloud services; comfortable with monitoring and logging; technology-agnostic and able to pick up new languages/frameworks as needed (e.g., Go, Ruby).
  • Remote-ready collaborator: effective in distributed teams with asynchronous communication and cross-time-zone collaboration.
  • Product & customer focus: understand the why behind your code and align with product direction while valuing diverse perspectives.
  • Innovative problem solver: enjoy solving hard problems and pursuing asymmetric win scenarios to improve outcomes for users.

If you’ve dreamed of building something big, scrappy, and impactful—and you have the skills to back it up—we want to meet you!
