Radiographer – Practice Plus Group, Plymouth.

We are looking for an experienced Radiographer to join our team. As part of our professional, friendly and compassionate team you will do everything you can to ensure the patient’s treatment is of the highest standard.
Our focus at all times is on ensuring that our patients receive high quality treatment quickly, in clean and comfortable surroundings.
You will be working as part of a friendly, welcoming and expert multi‑disciplinary team supported by our experienced Radiology Manager, Vanessa, to deliver clinically safe and high quality care to patients.
Shift patterns
- 08:00 – 16:00, 08:30 – 16:30 (If needed), 09:00 – 17:00 and 10:00 – 18:00 on MRI scanner days (Mon – Friday).
- Weekends: On call for post‑ops – Saturday. Bank or volunteer for Sunday post‑ops.
- Weekend OPD clinics (some Saturdays) – volunteer radiographer.
- On call: One radiographer on one week’s call every 4–5 weeks.
What you’ll be doing
- Work both autonomously and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, managing examination workload effectively and producing a consistently high quality and safe level of care for all patients.
- Undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to the Ionising Radiation and Medical Exposure Regulations 2000 (IRMER 2000) and Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999 (IRR 1999). Demonstrate a clear understanding of safe radiation practice, use of local rules and quality assurance programmes for diagnostic equipment.
- Clinically justify X‑ray referrals using referral acceptance criteria defined within the Practice Plus Group referral and scanning protocols and also validate reports that have been produced.
- Undertake a broad range of radiographic techniques and be flexible in adapting to the requirements of all patients and examination scenarios.
- Communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and other members of staff both internally and externally, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Demonstrate a high level of respect to all patients ensuring privacy and dignity are maintained at all times, offering reassurance and confidence in the quality of the service provided within Practice Plus Group.
- Ensure patient identification is checked prior to commencement of the examination, confirming that patient demographic data provided is accurate and entered correctly on all radiology IT systems.
- Maintain cleanliness in all clinical areas using appropriate measures for infection prevention and control of disease.
- Maintain all required mandatory training to ensure compliance with the essential standards of quality and safety defined by the Care Quality Commission.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of a clinical governance framework within the diagnostic imaging department.
- The post holder will be expected to participate in clinical audit and will have knowledge of quality assurance, incident reporting, risk assessment, information governance and patient experience and engagement.
- Successfully undertake a process of competency assessment which will assess the candidate’s ability to fulfil the requirements of a diagnostic radiographer. This process will be undertaken using a variety of assessment methods.
What we’ll look for in you
Education & Qualifications
- Good general education.
- DCR (Diploma of College of Radiographers) or equivalent.
- Registration with the HPV (HPC).
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- A degree in Radiology is desirable.
Previous Experience
- Recent postgraduate general radiography experience.
- Evidence of recent completion of BLS resuscitation skills, manual handling and fire evacuation/safety courses.
- Experience within the acute hospital sector.
- Experience in general radiography, theatre radiography, fluoroscopy.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to work flexibly within the needs of the service.
- Good computer skills.
- Ability to make own decisions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current developments in radiographic techniques.
