Job description

At LEX, we’re on a mission to deliver the next generation of cutting-edge diagnostic technology, and we’re looking for a Head of Electronics who wants to own that challenge.

Why this role matters

As our new Head of Electronics, you’ll join our collaborative Engineering team, reporting directly to the VP Engineering. This is a hands on, impact driven role where you’ll guide the design, development and delivery of electronics that power our diagnostic systems.

We’re recruiting because we’re expanding fast. With our first product going to market and next generation product development already underway, we’re looking for someone who can bring both technical depth, and strong leadership to further elevate our electronics capability.

If you want to work at a place where your engineering decisions shape real world outcomes, you’ll feel at home here.

You’ll take ownership of the full electronics function, including:

  • Leading electronics design for established and next-generation diagnostic systems
  • Interfacing with third parties to ensure smooth transfer into manufacturing
  • Collaborating closely with the heads of software and mechanical engineering to ensure robust, integrated solutions
  • Managing and mentoring a small team of 2-3 electronics engineers
  • Internal tool development to enable development teams

This role isn’t just technical, it’s strategic. You’ll help define the direction of our electronics roadmap while still getting stuck into the engineering.

We’re looking for someone who’s confident, methodical, and excited by solving complex design challenges.

Qualifications
  • Experience with design for test and transfer to manufacture
  • Understanding of EMC design and working with third party EMC test houses
  • Experience in regulated development, such as IEC60601, and working under ISO13485 or similar
  • Familiarity with interface design for mechatronic systems
  • Strong knowledge of embedded system design
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer
  • Understanding of power supply design, including switch-mode supplies
What we think makes this role exciting

Technical challenges you’ll tackle:

  • Designing in a fast-paced environment where “right first time” is key
  • Balancing iteration vs. complete redesign when inheriting existing systems
  • Working autonomously and driving solutions from concept to delivery
  • Own the electronics strategy for next-generation diagnostic instruments
  • Build and nurture manufacturer relationships
  • Work within cross-disciplinary engineering and scientific teams
  • Learn from an experienced, supportive leadership team
  • Influence product architecture and set the standards for future systems

Our working culture encourages entrepreneurship, shared ideas, and technical collaboration, while providing you the freedom to do your best work. We also offer fantastic employee benefits including:

  • Employer pension contribution of 10% (+3% personal contribution)
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Life insurance
  • 25 days’ annual holiday plus bank holidays
  • Discounts and memberships to local sports facilities and the theatre

At LEX, you won’t just join a team, you’ll help shape it.

If you’re excited by technical ownership, real responsibility, and engineering work that genuinely makes a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
