Job description

Summary

We are building a gas efficient fully decentralised exchange (DEX) and are looking for a Principal Backend Engineer (Founding Engineer) who enjoys architecting and implementing the systems that connect users to our DEX.

You will be a key figure at our company, making history contributing to the development of the first fully decentralised perpetuals exchange built around a Central Limit Order Book (CLOB), entirely on an EVM chain ( Monad )!

You will report directly to the CTO and architect the systems connecting web and mobile clients to blockchain data and systems.

Additionally you will architect critical systems that collect external data that our blockchain systems depend upon.

Although this project centres around a blockchain system, previous experience with blockchain is not a hard requirement.

Responsibilities

• Using your extensive knowledge and experience with standard Web 2 infrastructure and components, you will design a complete system to connect desktop and mobile client systems to our decentralised perpetuals exchange.
• While you will help implement portions of the design, your role will be more focussed on ensuring performance and reliability of the design while overseeing implementation, deployment, and maintenance by other engineers.
• You will need to own the end to end performance of the system across the stack and work with other teams at the boundaries of the stack to ensure successful interfacing.
• You will not only need to be familiar with standard infrastructure and components but also potentially in the design and implementation of custom components and blockchain specific components, for example blockchain data indexers from third parties and reference designs for exchange components, e.g. liquidator bots.
• Mentor team members on engineering best practices and career development

Qualifications

• You have 8+ years of experience, with at least 3 in a lead role.
• You have significant experience architecting secure production backend systems at scale on cloud infrastructure, involving the following components:
  • Data Pipeline Tools
  • Relational, In-Memory, and Time-series Databases
  • Notification Systems
  • Virtualisation
• You have experience:
  • Shipping product and writing production grade code.
  • Working with Rust, Go, or other high performance languages suitable for demanding services realisation.
  • With Websocket architecture and implementation.
• You can find a path and help others when confronted with ambiguous, unbound challenges, by helping reduce them into manageable tasks and providing a decision making framework.
• Experience leading cross-functional efforts to launch products.
• Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills.

Bonus Points

• Past experience working in high-paced startup environments
• Knowledge of EVM, DEXs, Perpetuals, and other novel DeFi primitives
• Proficiency in Rust
