Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Sizewell team. To be considered, you will come from a Civil Engineering background.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to final figures, aiming to minimize project costs and enhance value for money while achieving the required standards and quality. The ideal candidate must hold a full UK driving licence.

Key Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

1. Analytical Thinking & Decision Making

• Order information and systematically check data
• Prepare Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules, and analyze tender documents
• Critically appraise, estimate, and negotiate with third parties

Planning

• Review complex contract programmes such as Time-Location
• Assist with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes

Project Management

• Monitor subcontract activities, measure, and respond appropriately
• Analyze commercial progress and report to senior project staff
• Manage commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders within their area of responsibility

Procurement

• Undertake constructability analyses using construction programmes
• Prepare procurement programmes and help develop strategies

Commercial Management

• Analyze rates and prices, agree on variations and/or compensation events as required
• Manage customer and stakeholder relationships within their area of responsibility
• Prepare, submit, and negotiate claims; produce internal reports, monitor commercial progress, and perform financial reconciliations
• Ensure compliance with company procedures

Experience/Knowledge:

• Extensive experience in civil engineering, managing all commercial aspects of projects, with fluency in contract law and terminology
• High proficiency in operating NEC3 Options A, B, and C forms of contract
• Capability to produce robust Cost Plans and CVRs, and present to regional managers or the board
• Experience in managing a team
• Good knowledge of and adherence to the company’s GMCEs, BMS, and other governance standards

Qualifications:

• Degree in Building Surveying or a similar technical qualification (HND, HNC)
• Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
• CSCS Card

Skills:

• Proficiency with a range of IT packages, including Microsoft Office and bespoke software
• Exceptional relationship-building skills
• Self-motivated, proactive, with commercial awareness and understanding of the construction process
• Strong negotiation skills applicable internally, externally, and with the supply chain
• Positive attitude and ability to actively contribute to the construction team
• Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize to meet deadlines
