Job Description Summary

Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition. You will be part of a team focused on the manufacture of large power transformers to meet customer / production plans, ensuring assembly, inspection and test is conducted using Lean methodology. Working to specifications and instructions, using the correct tools and methods. Meeting exacting standards expected by the customer.

PLEASE BE AWARE these are permanent nights (there will be a premium shift allowance):

For Permanent nights:
Mon - Thurs 10pm – 6am
Fri 6pm - midnight

Job Description

Environment / Health / Safety: Compliance with EHS adherence to safe working operating procedures from the perspective of their own safety and safety of their work colleagues.

Product on time delivery: Responsible for the build of the product to the manufacturing plan.

Product Quality:

  • Responsible for the build quality of the product in line with the standard operating instructions.
  • May be required to assist in the training of others.

Product cost: Responsible for the efficient manufacture of the product in line with defined process.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Implement where instructed, process improvement actions that will result in sustainable productivity improvements without impairing product quality or delivery performance or safety.
  • Make proposals that you feel will deliver improvements and savings in line with GE processes and policies using the Employee Ideas Scheme.

Maintenance:

  • Working to APS practices follow routine maintenance schedules and cleaning plans for workstations, jigs and fixtures.
  • Highlight any issues to the Production Support Engineer/Coordinator.
  • As and when required, support any other duties that may be required to support the manufacturing facility.
  • Be adaptable to all future business requirements.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Good general standard of education with confirmed educational qualifications
  • Significant experience in the light mechanical assembly environment or similar. Electrical/electronic qualifications may be an advantage.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Mandatory EHS Compliance with GE Life Saving Rules.
  • Safe working practices within the workplace.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • Understanding of ‘Lean manufacturing' techniques would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of Kanban & Flow / Pull Techniques would be an advantage.
  • Mechanical / Electrical aptitude would be an advantage.
  • Requires manual handling expertise.
  • Able to work to standard written operative procedures.
  • Effectively communicate within the team.
  • Interpretation of diagrams, drawings and Schematic details required. Be able to adapt to the use of Touch Screen technology and IT skills.

Lichfield Road manufacturing facility has been originally established in 1903 and has been standing since 1960 as a part of English Electric group, delivering power transformers, that later merged GEC Alsthom and later became ALSTOM, and has been acquired by GE in 2015. Stafford is ideally suited for research and advanced manufacturing with our highly skilled staff and position at the heart of the UK's transport network. GE is proud to be the largest employer in Stafford, with around 1,700 employees across multiple sites.

The transformer facility has been renowned all over the world with its expertise in design, manufacturing, and delivery of HVAC and HVDC transformers world-wide, up to 800kV.
