Job summary

A global engineering leader in Stockton is seeking a Cost Controller to manage project budgets and expenditures. We are involved with clients to design pilot plants to test new technologies, with a view to partnering for full-scale facilities.

The role

As a Cost Controller, you will prepare and report on project cost budgets and oversee the tracking, management and reporting of project expenditures to enable robust control throughout the project life cycle. You will support senior members of the cost team with preparation and reporting of project cost budgets, ensuring budgets and reports meet the required detail and accuracy per contractual requirements and Wood policies, procedures and standards. This will typically involve the review, analysis and reporting of actual and forecasted project costs against the project approved budget.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, issue and maintain Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) for specific scopes
  • Collaborate with other Project Controls disciplines to develop budgets in accordance with Basis of Estimate including statements of work, assumptions, man-hour estimates and client document reviews
  • Coordinate with procurement, finance and time-capture functions, and third parties to ensure accurate and timely capture of costs
  • Allocate costs accurately to approved project WBS
  • Maintain awareness of project activities and their impact on budget, schedule and cost forecast
  • Facilitate and manage project work approvals with accurate cost code allocation and initial budget setup
  • Develop and maintain project cost budgets using appropriate software
  • Monitor and control cost commitments and expenditures across all project phases
  • Coordinate with planning to ensure accuracy in cost phasing and forecasting
  • Prepare and provide project cost performance reports according to requirements
  • Prepare and issue updates to project cost forecasts
  • Monitor cost impact of manpower forecasts
  • Develop and issue project change orders / variations in line with change notifications
  • Communicate cost and schedule impact of changes
  • Monitor overall project cost performance and contingency drawdown
  • Attend project meetings as required
  • Coordinate the project cost close-out process

  • Typically requires ISCED level 6 (Bachelors) Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (or equivalent via vocational training/experience)
  • Relevant cost experience
  • Proficient knowledge of cost software and related budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow principles
  • Proficient knowledge of Project Execution Procedures for Cost Management including Change Management
  • Proficient understanding of WBS & CBS structures and project reporting capabilities
  • Ability to develop project cost budgets and change estimates
  • Ability to prepare cost reports
  • Understanding of change management and cost/schedule processes
  • Understanding of earned value application, cost and schedule variance analyses/trending
  • Understanding of project management principles and Cost Management, Change Control, Planning & Risk Analysis
