Associate Technical Director – Stream Lead, GIS Data and Visualisation
Arcadis is looking to recruit a Leader to join our Geospatial, Data and Visualisation (GDV) stream in our UK Environmental Planning business. The role is a technical lead within the UK Landscape, Masterplanning and Urbanism (LMU) Team, focused on growing the team’s capability and presence. You will help shape and deliver our geospatial strategy, define best practices, mentor colleagues, lead new initiatives and directly contribute to our global success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of GDV projects, ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and strong collaboration across Arcadis colleagues.
- Coordinate work for GDV staff based in the UK and overseas.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external clients.
- Provide GIS technical mentorship to GIS staff, including team leaders and Principal and Senior grade staff.
- Provide specialised GIS technical input to major or complex studies.
- Stay current with geospatial and AI industry trends and technologies.
- Prepare, check and approve technical reports, drawings, data platforms.
- Undertake presentations on GIS, Data and Visualisation.
- Manage GDV project budgets and ensure delivery to tight deadlines.
- Perform quality control of GIS and Visualisation work undertaken by other GDV staff.
- Contribute to the technical development of the GDV team through sharing ideas and innovations.
- Travel to other offices for business development and project meetings.
- Encourage SHEQ feedback and lead in solving SHEQ issues.
- Line‑manage GDV team staff and manage performance of team members and sub‑contractors.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- A relevant degree in GIS, computer sciences, geography or a related subject, with advanced knowledge of GIS software or work experience and qualifications reflecting a similar level of expertise.
- Experience with the ESRI stack, particularly ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise and Enterprise Geodatabases.
- Experience with SQL for handling large datasets.
- AI literacy and the ability to communicate concepts clearly and support skill development.
- Suitability for security clearance.
- Previous GIS / Geospatial project management experience.
- Excellent people‑management skills and experience leading diverse teams.
- Ability to work within commercial constraints to deliver output on budget and programme.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes and data formats.
- Experience preparing Geospatial technical written content and promoting Geospatial via presentations and networking.
- Customer‑focused approach to quality and service.
- Ability to identify innovative solutions and add value to clients and develop the Geospatial business.
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
- Strong communication skills in English, orally and in writing.
- Understanding of health, safety and welfare management.
- Recognised expertise in Geospatial discipline with a well‑established industry network.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within the Environmental Consultancy Sector.
- Experience with 3D modelling software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 3DS Max or Revit.
- Skills in Python (ArcPy and data‑science libraries), with additional experience in .NET, Java or modern JavaScript libraries.
- Knowledge of real‑time processes and related software such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
