Key tasks
- Planning, engineering and documentation to deliver on-time optimal wavelength transmission design solutions for Europe.
- Review of bespoke and on-net solution designs to ensure strategic fit with network growth and expansion goals.
- Work with the wider operations team to identify and deliver synergies to simplify the network, improve service and reduce cost where possible.
- Pro-actively manage network capacity and as required trigger, manage, and deliver infrastructure upgrade projects to maintain the capability to deliver customer services.
- Pro-actively manage optical network spares planning for optimal cost/ SLA balance.
- Liaison with Sales Engineering to ensure network solutions fit with general European architecture strategy, and to ensure strategy evolves with broad customer requirements.
- Work closely with vendors to implement changes, additions and upgrades to optical infrastructure networks.
- Support implementation and service activation with network and vendor knowledge.
- Work closely with the wider Operations team to ensure efficient delivery of customer services to achieve company quarterly Gross, Churn and Net service activations.
- Pro-actively manage disconnect tasks to ensure best use of network capacity.
- Manage infrastructure spend and provide accurate quarterly forecasts for the business.
- Work with product group peers to ensure alignment with global provisioning processes and also ensure regional needs are captured and supported.
Other Responsibilities
- Attend Customer meetings when required and provide technical input and direction.
- Personal development - update relevant knowledge & skills in line with trends and developments in the field.
- Support the development of Zayo by taking part in business planning and liaison work with other teams.
- Comply with departmental, corporate controls and procedures and all internal control processes.
- Maintain the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct self with the greatest degree of professional integrity.
- Undertake any other ad hoc duties as deemed appropriate by the appropriate Manager / Director.
Key Skill and Experience Requirements
- Substantial experience in optical transmission systems.
- In-depth technical understanding of the components in optical telecommunications networks and a demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate technical data, methods and procedures.
- Working knowledge of WDM transmission equipment. Experience with Ciena, Nokia, Ekinops and Adva would be an advantage.
- Confident and able to challenge staff, suppliers, and processes to deliver a favourable Customer outcome.
- Knowledge of use of optical test equipment desirable.
- Ability to diversify and adapt to business needs.
- Pragmatic and analytical approach to problem solving.
- Accountability orientated.
