Senior Advanced Application Engineer

The incumbent will be required to lead the deployment of Asset & Process Performance Monitoring and Optimization solutions primarily in the Middle East Region. To that end, the lead engineer shall be responsible for requirements gathering, development of techno-commercial proposals, conducting demonstrations, coordinating with stakeholders, preparing design, & managing project teams. Digital Twin solutions involve multiple skills like digital integration, process optimization, equipment maintenance and data science techniques. Candidate is expected to work in part or all these areas.

Candidate will apply software technologies to achieve Digital Twin solutions across Oil & Gas, Refinery, chemical, minerals industries. The application could be deployed on-premises or in Cloud.

The position is a direct staff position with billability to external customer projects, intercompany customer projects and customer support services >= 90%.

The applicant will have a direct reporting line to the Engineering Manager for Digital Transformation.

Key responsibilities

The applicant will be responsible for:

  • End-to-end design & delivery of digital twin solutions including determining equipment and operational constraints. Interpret digital twin output against running plant, early fault prediction.
  • Determine KPIs for digital twins. Build prototypes of KPI dashboards for digital twins.
  • Determine what-if scenarios for digital twins.
  • Identification and implementation of autopilot / autonomous operations scenarios.
  • Static/rotating/smart instrument asset monitoring, fault prediction, & reliability solutions.
  • Prototype solutions and product demonstrations.
  • Development of conceptual, user requirement, functional and detailed technical design specifications and technical leadership, support and broad expertise for equipment performance monitoring & reliability.
  • Establishing acceptance of designs with customer stakeholders. Translating and conveying impact of process and system changes to bottom line and articulating the benefits & value to the customer.
  • Prepare project plans & issue work packages, test for quality, & track progress of local & or remote project engineering groups, 3rd Parties, Development and R&D groups for successful project delivery.
  • Participate and facilitate critical project activities, ensuring buy-in and acceptance from the customer.
  • Support change management within customer organization through preparation of business process diagrams, preparing training & best practice documentation, conducting training sessions.
  • Proactively recommend potential quality and efficiency improvements within the engineering/ product development group. Regularly identify & communicate risk in the project and prepare mitigation plans.
  • Share technical knowledge with project team, supervisor, own discipline, and other disciplines.
  • Communicate with internal team regarding technical issues, escalating these early in the project.
  • Provide pre-sales support to proposal teams.

Position requires approximately 40% travel mostly in the Middle East region.

Key skills and qualifications

The applicant must have:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Advanced Process Control, Mechanical Engineering, IT, Physics or in similar discipline.
  • Background in critical rotating equipment performance monitoring, maintenance & operation and / or process control / optimization.
  • Experience in implementing applications for asset performance management such as Honeywell Uniformance Asset Sentinel, GE Smart Signal, Aspen MTell, AVEVA APM and / or experience in implementing Real-Time / Multi-Variable Optimization solutions in multiple industries.
  • Experience in modelling behavior using a variety of techniques such as 1st Principles Models / Thermodynamic Models / Inferential Models / Neural Network / Machine Learning Models.
  • Preferably holds industrial IT technology certificates (e.g. SQL Server, AI/ML, Python).
  • Experience in data pre-processing/data cleansing.
  • Good English written and oral communication skills.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Capable of focusing on and prioritizing key issues.
