About the job In-House Legal Counsel (FTC) - International Large Law Firm - Sandton

Our client is a large international law firm based in Sandton. As part of their ongoing growth, they are seeking a highly skilled and motivated In-House Counsel to join their dynamic legal team. This role requires an individual who will be responsible for providing legal advice on a range of complex internal issues, as well as supporting the firms Risk Management and Compliance strategy. The purpose of this strategy is to control and minimize risk, protect the firms professional responsibility and reputation, and enhance its overall performance. This is a fixed-term contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice to the firm, and input into the development of an effective risk management and governance framework, including a comprehensive best practice plan, by researching and keeping abreast of significant legal developments and new legislation or regulation that will impact the firm.
  • Develop, draft, and drive implementation, maintenance and monitoring of firm-wide policies, procedures and manuals, as well as provide legal advisory support and practical guidance in relation to the firm's contracting and procurement, insurance matters, and other ad hoc and project related issues.
  • Provide a diagnostic and advisory service to the firm, individual fee earners and non-legal support staff on a variety of issues as these pertain to the firm's contracting and procurement, insurance matters, specific regulations, conflicts, claims, complaints, professional ethics and the code of conduct.
  • Support in the proactive establishment, maintenance and communication of ethical management policies, practices and controls in accordance with the firm's fiduciary duties and risk management controls to mitigate against malpractice claims and loss.

Experience and Education

  • Admitted Attorney.
  • Post graduate Diploma and Professional Registration / NQF level 8 (e.g Management Sciences or related field).
  • 3-5 years PQE.
  • Must have large firm experience or articles and exposure to international law firm practices would be beneficial.
  • A background in a similar professional services environment would also be considered.
  • Legal, Risk and Compliance experience in a law firm.
  • Registered with the Legal Practice Council.
