Overview

Traveling Senior Safety Specialist. This is a 100% full-time traveling role. The position may support our nationwide Aviation Vertical footprint from the Atlanta office, but the ideal candidate does not need to reside in Atlanta.

Locations include multiple U.S. cities across the country.

Role Summary

The Senior Safety Specialist will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and complex construction projects. This position is responsible for conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting abatement of hazardous conditions, writing reports and performing trend analysis. All activities support the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Responsibilities (Core)
  • Coordinates and implements the field safety program for routine construction projects.
  • Conducts regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies.
  • Performs safety audits on assigned projects by identifying, documenting and recommending abatement of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions to internal and external clients. Utilizes internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques and closure.
  • Conducts project-specific new hire orientation and oversees drug and alcohol policy compliance.
  • Monitors the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractors’ safety programs.
  • Attends project pre-planning, progress and other relevant project-related meetings to discuss safety-related matters.
  • Supports field leadership in implementing safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees and related activities; chairs the project safety committee when applicable.
  • Assists in the investigation of project-related accidents; determines root cause and discusses recommendations for changes in work processes to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinates with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return-to-work while compiling progress reports for the supervisor.
  • Monitors site safety incentive program.
Responsibilities (Senior/Additional Core)

Note: Emphasis on higher-level safety knowledge and more complex safety hazards; guidance on training and program development may be included.

  • Identifies more complex safety hazards spanning safety, health and hazardous material matters; provides more complex abatement solutions.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of equipment, laws and work processes to project-specific safety recommendations.
  • Participates actively in meetings with enhanced communication contributions.
  • Uses internal safety management systems to perform trend analysis and provide solutions to mitigate future occurrences.
  • Provides guidance and training on basic to intermediate safety topics for new or existing safety and project team personnel.
  • Assists safety leadership during insurance audits.
  • Oversees more complex projects or multiple projects; may manage a controlled insurance program.
  • May develop and implement training strategies and processes; partners with leadership on needs assessments and strategic training plans.
  • Participates in identifying training needs to develop new or improved programs; may develop digital and in-person training methods and maintain training records.
  • Supports implementation of technologies to enhance learning experiences and monitors safety metrics for training improvements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to perform work accurately, completely and in a timely manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills (Advanced).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in company safety software/programs, processes and tools (Advanced).
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Ability to build relationships across teams and projects.
  • Knowledge of environmental hazard testing protocols.
  • Proficiency in required construction technology (Intermediate).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health-related field (Preferred).
  • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of the above.
Experience
  • 5+ years of construction safety experience (Required).
Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
