Position

This is a full-time on-site role for a Structural Engineer, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in structural analysis, design, and materials engineering who are passionate about advancing nuclear innovation through precision engineering and safety-focused design.

Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze structural systems for reactor modules, enclosures, transport frames, and balance-of-plant components
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural integrity, stresses, fatigue, and thermal effects
  • Develop and review structural drawings, calculations, and material specifications in compliance with ASME, AISC, and NRC standards
  • Collaborate with mechanical, civil, and manufacturing teams to ensure structures are optimized for assembly, transportability, and modular production
  • Conduct seismic, wind, and load analyses in accordance with applicable building codes and nuclear safety requirements
  • Support the selection and qualification of structural materials for high-temperature and radiation environments
  • Prepare design documentation and reports for internal reviews and regulatory submissions
  • Coordinate with external vendors, fabricators, and inspectors to verify design intent and quality standards
  • Support prototype testing, validation, and design modifications as part of the development cycle
  • Contribute to design reviews, safety evaluations, and multidisciplinary integration meetings
Qualifications & Skillsets
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in structural design and analysis for industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in FEA and CAD tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of ASME, AISC, and building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, etc.)
  • Experience with seismic, vibration, and dynamic load analyses
  • Knowledge of welded structures, pressure boundaries, and high-reliability materials
  • Familiarity with nuclear, aerospace, or heavy-industry design requirements is a plus
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and documentation capabilities
  • Passion for clean energy, precision engineering, and building systems that enable a sustainable future
