Overview

Software Engineer, Full Stack - Safety Triage & Insights — Remote - US. ID:F8361 (for internal use only).

About Samsara

Samsara's mission is to improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the operations that power the global economy. Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness IoT data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations.

We are helping to improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the physical operations that power the global economy. Our customers span industries including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing.

About the role

The Safety Triage & Insights team owns and develops systems and customer-facing products across web, mobile, and API surfaces that help fleets identify unsafe driving behaviors and recognize positive driving habits. By collaborating with Safety teams, including ML & AI engineering, we ingest sensor and media data, detect risky behaviors, and leverage large language models (LLMs) to analyze safety events, surface patterns, and distill insights for safety managers.

As our scope grows beyond detection and remediation, the team is developing proactive, intelligent products that provide higher-level insights—empowering fleets to move from reactive coaching to data-driven safety management. As a Software Engineer II on this team, you will partner with Design and Product to evolve and expand our products, refine workflows based on customer input, and deliver scalable, AI-driven solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and operations.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US and Canada.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will have real-world impact—helping keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and ensure workers return home safely.
  • You want to build for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed, you will work on technologies driving scalable innovation for customers across industries.
  • You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals and a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies and customers.
  • You believe customers are more than a number: You will participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure outcomes.
  • You are a team player: We work with independent effort and collaboration toward our shared vision.
In this role, you will
  • Solve complex problems as you architect, build, test, and deliver full-stack products.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and support teams to deliver customer-facing solutions.
  • Build upon skills across Golang, GraphQL, Typescript, React, and MySQL. Previous experience with these technologies is not required.
  • Integrate large language models (LLMs) into safety workflows, design and run evaluations, and build feedback loops to improve accuracy and usefulness of insights.
  • Own the operational health of production systems at scale.
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across offices.
Minimum requirements
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong programming fundamentals in Java, Python, or Golang.
  • Experience designing, architecting, developing, and monitoring full-stack applications at scale.
  • Familiarity with integrating LLMs into products, including evaluations and feedback loops to improve accuracy.
  • Experience using data to investigate issues and resolve them.
  • Ability to estimate, communicate, and deliver on project milestones with your team.
  • A growth mindset and excitement around building new skills.
Ideal candidate
  • Experience with evaluation/monitoring tools (e.g., Langfuse, Eino) and optimizing LLM-powered systems for cost and token efficiency.
  • Web application development experience with frameworks such as React, Vue, or Svelte.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and experience designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Samsara’s compensation philosophy is to deliver Total Direct Compensation (base salary + bonus/variable + RSUs) at or above market. A new hire RSU may be awarded at the time of hire, with possible annual refresh grants for eligible roles.
