About the Role:

As a Senior Sales Engineer it’s your mission to show the value of Camunda and guide organizations planning to automate their core business processes and adopt AI through agentic orchestration.

You accompany prospective customers in their product evaluation of Camunda. You are responsible for achieving the solution technical win, obtaining answers to all of a prospect’s or customer’s product-related technical questions; expertly handling objections raised; and arranging all presales interactions driving the evaluation. You will help set and execute a sales strategy alongside the Account Executive to achieve the win and the customer’s business.

In this role you will partner with our Account Executives (AE) and Solution Architects (SA), and collaborate with Product and Technical Marketing, Engineering, Customer Success, Technical Support, and others throughout Camunda’s ecosystem. Responsibilities during the sales cycle may include qualifying opportunities with the AE; expertly highlighting and positioning the value proposition of Camunda for the prospect’s business and use case; conducting standard and customized product demonstrations; executing Proof of Value and Proof of Concept activities with support from the SA team; recording status updates, meeting outcomes, technical risks and next steps in the approved CRM or other system (e.g. SFDC); hosting workshops and other interactive customer experiences; presenting at conferences and tradeshows, both internal and external. This is not an exhaustive list of duties.

The effectiveness of Camunda's Senior Sales Engineers is gauged by their ability to convert prospects into Camunda customers both efficiently and at a high rate.

This position requires a strong interest in cutting-edge software technologies and a passion for helping customers achieve their goals and mission. You should take pleasure in crafting sample code or custom demonstrations and exploring new technology, even if you're not highly experienced in software development. By empathizing with prospects, you better grasp their requirements, enable engaging technical conversations, and excel at clarifying how Camunda's technology can benefit their business.

What you'll be doing:

  • Map customer requirements to the capabilities within our Camunda product portfolio

  • Position the potential quantitative and qualitative business value of Camunda in meeting

  • Develop individualized Camunda evaluation plans for prospects

  • Conduct product demonstrations, workshops, proof events, office hours and other technical sales activities to drive evaluations and adoption

  • Support the completion of RFI / RFP documents and other solicitations

  • Team with Account Executives to develop account strategies for expansion and new-logo acquisition

  • Bear primary responsibility for organizing and executing all pre-sales engagements and activities

  • Create and maintain pre-sales content and technical artifacts, including recording and updating opportunity status, technical risks and next steps in the approved system on a weekly basis

What you bring:

  • Ability and/or willingness to useour product.

  • 1. Strong Technical Foundation: A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Solid understanding of common IT/system architectures, programming fundamentals, and modern software engineering practices. Ability to “go deep” with customers and prospects who are well-versed in software engineering and business process automation technologies. Ability to read and understand code such as Java or Python, as well as write small samples of code necessary for integrating Camunda with other software and technologies.

  • 2. Proven Sales Engineering Experience: 5+ years in Sales Engineering or Technical Pre-Sales with a deep understanding of sales cycles, value-based selling, and stakeholder engagement. Skilled in handling objections and driving deals to closure in a consultative selling environment. Coordinate multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders throughout the sales process.

  • 3. Communication Excellence: Exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives tailored to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Create and deliver compelling presentations; read the room; and convince prospects of the appropriateness of Camunda to solve their needs. Storytellers welcomed!

  • 4. Passion for Delighting the Customer: We are first and foremost a service organization - we serve both internal and external customers daily. Must have a customer-first mindset; be able to become an expert in Camunda’s technology and solutions; have a willingness to solve complex problems and source answers to technical inquiries; be open to learning new technologies or integrations as they emerge; and confidently address diverse audiences from software developers to senior executives, tailoring the message and value proposition to the audience as appropriate.

  • 5. Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel occasionally for customer meetings, events, and team collaboration. Estimated travel requirement 25-30%.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in one or more of: enterprise automation, business process management (BPM), process orchestration, robotic process automation (RPA), Agentic AI or similar domains

  • Familiarity with value-based selling, including conducting value workshops and applying value engineering frameworks

  • Strong understanding of the process automation and orchestration product landscape and key industry players

  • Experience working in BFSI; Telecommunications; Logistics; or another relevant industry domain

  • Proficiency in an additional language beyond English (esp. Spanish)

  • Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages such as Java, or the ability & willingness to learn as necessary to integrate Camunda with other customer systems

Compensation

We offer competitive, fair, and transparent compensation. Salary ranges are location-based, with Standard and Major markets (global tech hubs) reflecting local competition.

The Annual Total Target Cash (base salary + 100% variable target, where applicable) shown below spans from the minimum in a Standard market to the maximum in a Major market. Final offers depend on skills, experience, and location, and we typically hire in the first half of the range to allow room for growth:

  • United States: $175,200 to $289,000

  • Germany: €113,200 to €187,200

  • United Kingdom: £110,000 to £180,900

  • Singapore: S$217,500 to S$326,300
