Overview

The Senior Research Scientist participates in research study design, analysis and interpretation of results, with emphasis on statistical and analytical plan development, data acquisition, preparation and management, and statistical analysis of findings. The role involves moderately complex to complex issues requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Humana’s Healthcare Quality & Reporting Improvement (HQRI) department seeks a Senior Research Scientist to join a high-performing team dedicated to advancing predictive modeling and analytics in support of our Medicare and Medicaid business. The HQRI team delivers insights that drive the effectiveness of risk adjustment initiatives.

The Senior Research Scientist will apply advanced statistical methods to rigorously evaluate the impact of risk adjustment programs and pilot projects. Findings will inform key business decisions and help optimize operational strategies. The role will collaborate with colleagues in data science and actuarial analytics, and we seek a candidate who can serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert in research study design and analysis.

Objectives
  • Within six months, take ownership of existing program evaluation projects
  • Within two years, create a framework for evaluating risk adjustment programs and expand to evaluate a broader array of risk adjustment programs

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of demonstrated research science or related experience
  • Proficiency with one of the following: SQL, SAS, R or Python
  • Experience using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions
  • Ability to use independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action
  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher education
  • Experience in health care, insurance, or risk adjustment
Location and Travel

This position is remote and can be performed anywhere in the US; preference for candidates within reasonable commuting distance to Louisville, Kentucky.

Compensation and Benefits

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Pay Range: $94,900 - $130,500 per year. This range reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time employment and may vary by geographic location and individual qualifications.

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.
