Overview

Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer – DB2Remote - United States JR012295

Provide premium DB2 sysprog support and services to Ensono mainframe clients as they relate to Mainframe DB2 systems. The successful candidate will perform mainframe database software upgrades coupled with administration and tuning to support our customers’ DB2 environments. The individual will need to work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solutions of database problems. The individual will be responsible for day-to-day database maintenance such as creating backups, performing restores, monitoring file extent growth, scheduling reorganizations, creating and maintaining DR procedures and overall support of customer needs and requests. The successful candidate will be called upon to perform a variety of database optimizations that will include general reporting and analysis of the efficiency of the database configuration and periodic review of database performance.

Position reports to Sr. Manager, Mainframe Systems Programming.

Responsibilities
  • Provide premium DB2 sysprog support and services related to Mainframe DB2 environments.
  • Perform mainframe database software upgrades, administration, and tuning to support customer environments.
  • Collaborate with vendor personnel to resolve database problems in a timely manner.
  • Execute day-to-day database maintenance (backups, restores, track file extent growth, schedule reorganizations).
  • Create and maintain disaster recovery procedures; support customer needs and requests.
  • Perform database optimizations including reporting and analysis of configuration efficiency; periodically review performance.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities.
  • Fulfill customer service orders (CSOs) for mainframe z/OS customers related to DB2.
  • Provide primary support for issues related to DB2 table spaces.
  • Provide 24 x 7 x 365 support across multiple time zones.
  • Support customer migrations (new transitions) related to DB2 and related OEM software products.
  • Assist the assigned project manager in migrating newly acquired customers; address technical hurdles in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with Disaster Recovery Services to execute disaster recovery plans.
  • Adhere to a schedule that efficiently manages resources and enables timely implementations.
  • Follow ITSM change control procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in DB2 administration and systems programming support; CA and IBM tools for DB2 are a plus.
  • Knowledge of best practices in software management, maintenance, and documentation.
  • SMP/e experience.
  • Experience configuring and managing DB2 in a parallel Sysplex environment.
  • Ability to develop innovations, strategies, processes, and best practices in software management.
  • Experience establishing policies and procedures for database management, DR, security, maintenance, and utilization.
  • Experience reviewing new DB2 versions for functionality and benefits to clients.
  • Ability to evaluate change requests and assess impact to clients; troubleshoot and resolve production database issues.
  • Experience supporting DB2 security requests and reviewing DB2 security for potential risks.
  • Experience with reorganization of application data and tuning of internal DB2 buffer pools and SQL code.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from multiple clients.
  • Experience supporting multiple customers after hours on-call.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this role is $85,000 to $148,000 annually based on a full-time schedule. Placement in the range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and business needs. In addition to base salary, other compensation programs may include an annual bonus and equity grants where eligible.
