Overview

Job title: Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Psychiatry Inpatient / Emergency Department Consults

Work Schedule

100% FTE, Monday–Friday typically between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. No weekends, holidays, or call.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments of patients with acute and/or chronic mental illness in inpatient and Emergency Department (ED) settings, including assessment of psychosocial, cognitive, developmental, and medical status.
  • Develop recommendations for treatment and communicate with the primary treatment team.
  • Collaborate with the ED and inpatient medical/surgical teams, ED Mental Health Clinicians, and sub-specialties including health psychology, AODA, and geriatrics.
  • Provide Telepsychiatry consultation to East Madison Hospital Emergency and Medical-Surgical Units.
  • See patients and family members as needed for follow-up psychiatric care that can include medication management, non-pharmacological treatment planning for behavior management, bedside supportive therapy, collateral information gathering, team treatment planning meetings, management of acute agitation, and cognitive assessments.
Education

Minimum education requirements:

  • If Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nursing Program.
  • If Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited PA Program.
Licenses and Certifications

Minimum – State of Wisconsin NP or PA licensure.

If Nurse Practitioner:

  • Active RN and APRN certifications and licenses, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice AND
  • Active board certification as a NP in area of clinical practice (e.g., Psychiatric-Mental Health).

If Physician Assistant:

  • Active PA license, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice AND
  • Active PA board certification
  • Specialization degree in psychiatry (CAQ-PSY).

All NP/PA applicants must have an active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire.

  • Active license or eligibility to obtain active licensure in state of practice (e.g., Wisconsin and other states as applicable).
