Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures as ordered.
  • Obtain clinical history and data for procedures.
  • Implement screening and safety measures according to standards.
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Assist Radiologist in special procedures and emergencies.
  • Coordinate patient care to optimize satisfaction.
  • Assess learning needs and educate patients/families.
  • Maintain records and verify signed physician orders.
  • Know the locations and operations of emergency equipment.
  • Follow radiation safety policies.

Job description

Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Hosp

Unit: Nuclear Medicine

Hours: Mon-Thurs., 6:30a-4p

Facility: MVH

Position Summary:

Independently performs Nuclear Medicine procedures utilizing proper techniques and administration of radiopharmaceuticals. Works under their scope of practice and in accordance with certificate/licensure in the administration of medications, operation of equipment, and venipuncture. Coordinates patient flow and the activities of the Nuclear Medicine department including radiation protection practices. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of his/her duties in order to maintain equipment in good working condition. May perform procedures in other imaging modalities based on departmental needs. May have on call responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Functions:

  1. Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures of diagnostic and therapeutic quality as ordered by the referring physician and/or radiologist on patients of all ages according to established protocols. Evaluates diagnostic Nuclear Medicine studies for technical image quality.

  2. Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the Nuclear Medicine procedure.

  3. Implements screening and safety measures in accordance with prescribed Nuclear Medicine safety standards. Performs Quality Control/Quality Assurance as required.

  4. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals to the patient according to policy. Practices sterile techniques.

  5. Assists Radiologist in special procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations.

  6. Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction

  7. Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about exam.

  8. Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure.

  9. Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.

  10. Follows radiation safety policies and procedures.

Education:

Minimum Level of Education Required: Diploma Program

Additional requirements:

§ Type of degree: Allied Health

§ Area of study or major: Nuclear Medicine Technology

§ Preferred educational qualifications: Associate degree, graduate of an accredited program or currently enrolled in a multi-modality program with board certification in Nuclear Medicine

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

§ CPR Certification required within 30 days of hire

§ Nuclear Medicine registry required

§ ODH licensure required

§ ARRT RT (N) registry required and/or NMTCB

Experience:

Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience

Preferred experience: One year experience in specialized field of Nuclear Medicine
