Base pay: $48,284.00/yr - $87,872.00/yr.
Pay range is provided by U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and may vary based on skills and experience.
Summary
As a VA Licensed Practical Nurse, you will work in Patient Care Service – Primary Care (Ambulatory Care Service). You will participate in a largest, technologically advanced integrated healthcare system serving Veterans. You will provide direct patient care, health promotion, and support for veterans.
Qualifications
- United States citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed only when no qualified citizens can be recruited.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Full, active, unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse (LPN/LVN) in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
- Graduate of a National League for Nursing–accredited practical/vocational nursing program or equivalent military/post‑secondary education accepted by the licensing body.
- Up to date with required licensure regulations and no revoked or restricted licenses.
- Track record of at least 6 months of qualified experience at the required GS level or graduate of an approved program with at least 24 months duration.
- Ability to perform patient care tasks within scope of license, including medication administration, emergency measures, and health‑promotion interventions.
- Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to infection‑control procedures.
- BLS certification (or equivalent) where required.
Duties
- Apply nursing process to collaborate with interdisciplinary care team.
- Administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous) and record patient responses.
- Recognize urgent or emergent patient situations and initiate emergency interventions, seeking assistance from RN or medical officer.
- Provide health‑promotion, disease prevention, and chronic‑illness management support to veterans.
- Document patient care, medication administration, and observations accurately.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow state, federal, and VA policies.
- Operate and maintain equipment safely, complying with infection‑control standards.
- Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives and evidence‑based practice.
- Assist with care for dying veterans and provide emotional support to patients and families.
- Perform other duties assigned by RN or medical officer.
Physical Requirements
- Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds).
- Reach above shoulders, use both hands.
- Walk, kneel, stand up to 1.5 hours.
- Perform repetitive bending and maintain coordination.
- Visual and hearing ability: near vision 13‑16, far 20‑20/40; hearing with or without aid.
