Overview

The Washington Home Builders Foundation (WHBF), the 501(c)3 charitable arm of the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW), supports workforce development and housing opportunity initiatives that strengthen Washington’s residential construction industry.

We’re seeking a motivated and relationship-driven Fund Development Manager to lead and grow the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. As a key member of our team, you’ll build partnerships, secure grants and sponsorships, and connect donors to programs that create real impact across the state. This includes financial support for the BuildStrong Academy of Pierce County, which is operated by WHBF. Job purpose

The Washington Home Builders Foundation Development Manager plans, sources, manages and reports on fundraising efforts for the foundation’s operations and programming, as well as the sponsorships of the BIAW.

Duties and responsibilities
Planning and reporting
  • Develop and implement fund development strategy and budget
  • Provide progress reports and budgetary totals to Foundation leadership
  • Create and distribute Annual Impact Reports
Grant requests and administration
  • Identify, write, and submit requests for applicable government and private foundation grants
  • Research and model data related to foundation programs, including measures of effectiveness
  • Provide timely reporting and ensure compliance as required by grant award documentation
  • Advise on restricted funding sources and funding reimbursement methods
Gift and sponsor cultivation
  • Identify and build a strong donor base that will provide diverse and sustainable funding for foundation programs
  • Create and implement a major-gifts program, planned-giving program, and volunteer-giving program.
  • Plan and operate fundraising and recognition events
  • Identify and pursue new sources of corporate sponsors for foundation programs and BIAW
  • Provide recognition requirements and media opportunities to BIAW’s communications team
  • Develop solicitation and recognition strategies and materials
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors of all types
  • Maintain and update donor database information
Community partnerships
  • Identify project and program partners within the communities of operations
  • Build and maintain relationships with key collaborators and service providers
  • Solicit input and involvement from major stakeholders
  • Attend relevant community events and promotional opportunities for the foundation and its programming
Additional responsibilities
  • Assist Foundation Director with program operations as needed
  • Staff liaison for Washington Home Builders Foundation board at BIAW board meetings

Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.

Experience: Three years of experience in development, including grant application and fundraising management.

Communication skills: Excellent communication skills are necessary to effectively communicate with stakeholders, build partnerships and advocate for foundation programs.

Project management: Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects to completion within deadlines, working independently with attention to detail.

Analytical skills: Proficiency in producing, analyzing and utilizing data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make data-driven decisions.

Computer skills: Proficiency in using the Microsoft Suite of technology, learning management systems, data management software, and online communication tools.

Working conditions

Generally, the work environment is office-based, though working a hybrid virtual schedule is available. The manager will attend meetings, conferences, and other events, occasional evenings or weekends may be required.

Requires the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage competing priorities.

The manager will work with a team of professionals, such as trainers, program managers, committees and councils and administrative staff.

Travel and presentations

Travel: Attend conferences, meetings, or visit different educational institutions or workforce development sites. This may require the ability to travel by air, train, or other modes of transportation.

Presentations and public speaking: The manager will be required to give presentations, conduct meetings with partners and speak at conferences. These activities may involve standing or walking for extended periods and require clear and effective communication skills.
