Overview

Director of Nursing – Med Surg – MVH

The Director is mutually responsible for the provision of high quality and cost effective patient care with the other members of the nursing leadership team through the implementation of the hospital strategic plan. The Director is accountable for establishing productive working relationships with the medical staff and other departments. The Director provides leadership to management and is a representative of the Vice Present, Hospital Operations. The Director is an advocate for the department, nursing, and patients and provides opportunities and role modeling for the growth and development of personnel.

The Director acts as a representative of Vice President, Hospital Operations and assumes the responsibilities for nursing in the absence of the person. The Director communicates appropriate information to the Vice President, Hospital Operations, regarding the impact of hospital and strategic decisions on patient care project/program development and implementation.

The Director of Nursing is a registered nurse on the Executive Team who is responsible for the management of multiple nursing departments, programs, or interdisciplinary teams within MVH. The Director is responsible to develop and implement product line business plans and present results to the Executive Team.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to management and represent the department to the Vice President, Hospital Operations.
• Establish productive working relationships with the medical staff and other departments.
• Lead patient care initiatives in alignment with the hospital strategic plan and advocate for patients, nursing staff, and department development.
• Act as the representative of the Vice President, Hospital Operations and assume nursing responsibilities in the absence of the VP.
• Communicate impact of hospital decisions on patient care, project/program development, and implementation to the Executive Team.
• Develop and implement product line business plans and present results to the Executive Team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed in the State of Ohio as an RN.
• Master’s degree is required. If Master’s degree is not in nursing, then the candidate must have a baccalaureate or doctoral degree in nursing.
• A minimum of five years in hospital nursing and a minimum of five years of progressive management experience is required.
• Demonstrated expertise in communication across disciplines, change management, managing group dynamics, and performance improvement processes.
