Spicer Group is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our Water Resources Service Group as a Design Engineer in our Bingham Farms office. Our award-winning Water Resources Service Group is a team of highly-educated engineers and designers who specialize in innovative storm water drainage and flood control designs, dam design and inspection, development of storm water management plans, unique in-stream and stream bank restoration efforts, and quality-engineered lake level control structure designs and plans. This position will assist with the preparation of designs, specifications, calculations, hydrologic and hydraulic studies, cost estimates, and more on projects across the region. A TYPICAL DAY ON THE JOB

Responsibilities

The team member in this position will provide engineering support within our Water Resources Service Group. They will assist with the preparation of designs, specifications, calculations, hydrologic and hydraulic studies, cost estimates, and more on projects across the region. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks
  • Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
  • Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer
  • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes
  • Assists in the preparation of design plans, specifications, supporting documents, and permit applications for projects
  • Assists in the preparation of calculations, quantities, cost estimates and other supporting documentation for projects
  • Assists in the preparation of hydrologic and hydraulic calculations
  • Utilizes computer software to analyze hydrologic and hydraulic studies, including, but not limited to, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and SWMM
  • May perform plan drafting using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS software
  • May direct and review the work of Technicians
  • May serve as an onsite project representative on a construction site

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

  • Knowledge using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro software
