Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for AWS Solutions Architect with DevSecOps experience to provide development, support, architecture, and leadership for a government application being moved into the AWS cloud. This position will be located in Alexandria Virginia and will be a fully remote position. It is a temporary position, likely to last only from 8/1/2025-3/20/2026.

Responsibilities

• Builds and codes applications and/or modules using languages such as C++, Visual Basic, ABAP, Java, XHTML, etc. Provides patches and upgrades to existing systems. Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. May design graphical user interface (GUI) to meet the specific needs of users. Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. May build add-on modules using application program language.

• Designs and codes applications following specifications using the appropriate tools

• Maintains and modifies existing software applications.

• Analyzes detailed systems factors, including input and output requirements, information flow, hardware and software requirements, and alternative methods of problem resolution.

• Performs modifications to and maintenance of operational programs and procedures.

• Participates in code reviews to represent reviewed work for adherence to standards and specifications.

• Writes or revises program documentation, operations documentation and user guides in accordance with standards.

Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. May design graphical user interface (GUI) to meet the specific needs of users. Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. May build add-on modules using application program language. Primarily an AWS Cloud position with working knowledge of both AWS and Java development.

• Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle for AWS solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance

• Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures

• Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training when necessary

• Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity

• Create blueprints for hybrid cloud infrastructures centered around AWS (network, server, storage, security, and management software topologies), run technical workshops and advise customers on architectural and strategic IT decisions

• Ensure that a quality solution is delivered in a timely manner, within budget, and to our client's satisfaction

• Participate in architecture definition for Cloud Initiatives utilizing industry best practices and technologies

• Provide solutions incorporating cloud engineering best practices; develop technical content like white papers etc.

• Planning of the project together with other developers

• Development of the application structure for cloud solutions

Qualifications

Bachelor's with 12+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering

• 8+ years of relevant work experience in solutions design and engineering, experience with Amazon Web Services or similar cloud platform

• Build and configure delivery environments supporting CD/CI tools such as Gitlab Pipeline Runner and Gitlab using an Agile delivery methodology

• Experience with systems reliability, load balancing, monitoring, logging

• Experience with fully automating CI/CD pipelines end-to-end, from code commits to production

• Develop, document, and implement CI/CD strategy for management of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) baseline

• Strong UNIX/Linux automation and troubleshooting skills

• Proficiency in Terraform and one or more automation languages (Ansible, Cloud Formations, Chef, Puppet, Terraform)

• Deep understanding of cloud component architecture: Microservices, Containers, IaaS, Storage, Security; knowledge of routing/switching technologies

• Understanding of cloud automation and orchestration tools

• 8+ years of end-to-end Cloud Migration and transformation experience

• Ability to provide solutions from conception through design and implementation

• Experience in multi-tier traditional applications and in service decomposition and microservices

• AWS Associate/Professional certification

• Excellent communication skills

• Extensive knowledge of AWS tools

• Ability to conduct testing at different project levels

• Experience with scripting languages and DevOps

• Knowledge of optimization, automation, integration, and productivity tools

• Knowledge of security protocols and relevant libraries

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity.
