Overview
GovCIO is currently hiring for an AWS Solutions Architect with DevSecOps experience to provide development, support, architecture, and leadership for a government application being moved into the AWS cloud. This position will be located in Alexandria, Virginia and will be fully remote. It is a temporary position, likely to last from 8/1/2025 to 3/20/2026.
Responsibilities
- Builds and codes applications and/or modules using languages and environments such as Java, Angular, AWS. Provides patches and upgrades to existing systems. Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. May design graphical user interface (GUI) to meet the specific needs of users. Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. May build add-on modules using application program language.
- Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle for AWS solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance.
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures.
- Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training when necessary.
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills to anticipate and resolve issues before they affect business productivity.
- Create blueprints for hybrid cloud infrastructures centered around AWS (network, server, storage, security, and management software topologies). Run technical workshops and advise customers on architectural and strategic IT decisions.
- Ensure that a quality solution is delivered in a timely manner, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
- Participate in architecture definition for Cloud Initiatives utilizing industry best practices and technologies.
- Provide solutions incorporating cloud engineering best practices; develop technical content such as white papers.
- Plan projects with other developers; develop the application structure for cloud solutions; create a cloud product; debug; carry out disaster recovery; set up blue-green environments; apply development optimization tools; automate deployment; detect and fix bugs; create product features; identify the best cloud tech stack; implement modifications and updates after release.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience, or commensurate experience.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
- 8+ years of relevant work experience in solutions design and engineering.
- Experience with Amazon Web Services or a similar cloud platform.
- Build and configure delivery environments supporting CI/CD tools such as GitLab and related Agile methodologies.
- Experience with systems reliability, load balancing, monitoring, and logging; fully automating CI/CD pipelines end-to-end from code commits to production.
- Develop, document, and implement CI/CD strategy for management of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) baselines.
- Strong UNIX/Linux-based environment installation, configuration, and troubleshooting skills.
- Automation development skills; proficiency in Terraform and at least one automation language (Ansible, CloudFormation, Chef, Puppet, Terraform).
- Detailed understanding of cloud component architecture: microservices, containers, IaaS, storage, security; knowledge of routing/switching technologies.
- Knowledge of cloud automation and orchestration tools; experience with end-to-end cloud migration and transformation.
- Ability to provide solutions from conception through design and implementation; experience with multi-tier traditional architectures and service decomposition to microservices.
- AWS Associate/Professional certification; strong English communication skills; expert coding proficiency; strong knowledge of AWS tools.
- Ability to conduct testing at different levels and stages; scripting language proficiency; DevOps experience; knowledge of optimization, automation, integration, and security libraries and protocols.
Clearance Required: Must be able to acquire and maintain a Public Trust.
