General Statement of Duties An assistant football coach plays a crucial role in supporting the head coach and ensuring the smooth operation of the team. Their duties include developing and implementing training programs, analyzing game footage to devise strategies, and providing individualized feedback to players to enhance their skills. They also assist with player tryouts, coordinate practice sessions, and manage equipment. Additionally, an assistant coach often serves as a mentor and motivator, fostering a positive team environment and addressing any issues that arise. Their collaborative efforts are essential in helping the team achieve its goals and maintain peak performance throughout the season.

Essential Duties

  • Assist in the management of the soccer program.
  • Assists in preparing players for interscholastic competition through practice, teaching fundamental skills, and imparting knowledge of the rules.
  • Assists in reviewing eligibility forms and submitting them to the Student Activities Director.
  • Assists in collecting all health physical forms.
  • Monitors student academic progress.
  • Assists in the cleaning, storage, and proper care of team equipment.
  • Assist in the requisitions for supplies, uniforms, and necessary equipment through the Student Activities Director.
  • Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community informed and engaged with the athletic program.
  • Assists in organizing pre‑season meetings with parents.
  • Helps prepare daily practice schedules and conducts practice sessions.
  • Attends VHSL clinics as required.
  • Follows county financial policies regarding the collection and receipt of funds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the management of the program through previous experience as a coach or player.
  • Previous coaching experience, knowledge of the sport, and current understanding of coaching techniques and strategies.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes.
