Overview

The Application Development Group Manager, SVP is a senior management level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology Team. The overall objective of this role is to drive applications systems analysis and programming activities. This is a full-stack technology role with strong hands-on experience in building high-performing, scalable, enterprise-grade applications. You will be part of a talented software team that works on franchise-critical applications. The Group Manager will be responsible for achieving significant business results, understanding client requirements and leading development teams through design, implementation and delivery while providing expertise in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing, including responsibility over technical strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive requirements gathering, strategy and solution design, roadmap, forecast, planning and build-out, leading development/engineering activities
  • Write high-quality code that is well-documented and easy to maintain
  • Troubleshoot and debug software problems
  • Ensure software platforms are compliant with Citi's security and SDLC processes
  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to drive an everything-as-code and codified controls mindset
  • Support and drive cultural change, instigating critical thinking about controls and processes and encouraging continuous improvement
  • Leverage latest technologies, including Generative AI, and apply them in practice
  • Take a pragmatic and creative approach to managing risk
  • Maintain a growth mindset and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Show enthusiasm and develop trust through empathy
  • Advocate inclusion and diversity in every way
  • Be a self-starter who can work effectively in teams and remotely
  • Manage multiple teams of professionals to accomplish goals and conduct personnel duties
  • Provide strategic influence and control over resources, budget management and planning while monitoring results
  • Provide evaluative judgment based on analysis of facts in complex, dynamic situations
  • Influence and negotiate with senior leaders across functions and communicate with external parties as necessary
  • Assess risk appropriately in business decisions, safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, and comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations; escalate, manage and report control issues with transparency

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of application development experience, including at least 10 years of hands-on leadership and development of franchise-critical applications
  • Experience with complex system integration projects
  • Design for Highly Available and Highly Scalable Systems
  • Hands-on experience in Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, J2EE design patterns, REST services, microservices, Docker/Kubernetes, and messaging with Kafka
  • Front-end technologies including JavaScript, Angular, CSS, and HTML
  • Hands-on experience with relational (Oracle/DB2), NoSQL (MongoDB), and Unix
  • Experience deploying applications on Cloud
  • Hands-on with testing tools like JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber
  • Experience with deployment in Apache Tomcat, OpenShift or public cloud environments
  • Expertise in test-driven development, CI/CD, builds, version control and development tools
  • Familiar with AI tools to improve development productivity
  • Experience managing global technology teams
  • Working knowledge of industry practices and standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; able to work independently
  • Experience collaborating with business analysts, DBAs, PMs and architects across geographies
  • Strong business acumen and presentation skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with Agile software development lifecycle and related tooling (e.g., JIRA, Scrum)
  • Experience in the Financial Services industry is a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
