About This Role

The Regional Child Protection Sr. Specialist will provide technical and strategic leadership across ChildFund’s protection strategy in the Americas. The position will focus on positioning ChildFund with key donors and regional networks, strengthening visibility, thought leadership and ensuring technical quality in the design of proposals, technical supervision of implementation and strengthen capacities in Country Offices through coordination and collaboration.

This is a full-time, open-ended position and a remote position open to candidates with current residence and work location in one of the following countries: Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Bolivia, or Brazil.

Required Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, gender studies, social work, public health, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 6–8 years of experience in Business Development and in Child Protection in the Americas, and international development.
  • Proven success in securing funding from institutional donors (e.g., USAID, USG, Global Affairs Canada between others.
  • Proven experience in implementing advocacy strategies with significant results.
  • Experience developing grants proposals and a track record that proves efficacy.
  • Strong track record in regional network participation and leadership in inter-agency coordination forums.
  • Demonstrated record of Child Protection and Safeguarding certification.
Primary Responsibilities

1. Business Development

  • Identify and pursue institutional and private funding opportunities aligned with child protection priorities.
  • Lead and support the development of high-quality proposals, concept notes, and technical narratives in collaboration with Country Offices (COs), technical teams, and partners.
  • Collaborate with business development and fundraising teams to co-design compelling donor engagement strategies.
  • Track donor trends and funding priorities related to child protection and advocacy and advise country offices accordingly.
  • Strengthen technical capacities in country offices for donor engagement and proposal development.

2. Technical Assistance for Child Protection Programming

  • Provide technical leadership on child protection and advocacy, ensuring quality on program design tools, logical frameworks, and result measurement strategies aligning with ChildFunds’ Result Framework and operational guidance and donor requirements and trends in the sector
  • Ensure integration of child safeguarding, gender equity, and inclusion in all program designs.
  • Coach national technical specialists to adapt and localize ChildFund’s child protection packages.
  • Ensure that programs from regional and country offices reflect evidence-based approaches in Protection and Advocacy
  • Supervise technical components of child protection grants and ensure adherence to global standards.

3. Strategic Visibility and Partnerships

  • Represent ChildFund in regional child protection and advocacy coordination forums, regional networks and technical working groups.
  • Strengthen relationships with peer organizations and explore joint programming and grants opportunities.
  • Amplify ChildFund’s voice through regional briefings, learning products, and donor engagements.
  • Develop communication materials to promote thought leadership in child protection.

4. Safeguarding and Compliance

  • Promote strong safeguarding practices across all operations and ensure compliance with ChildFund’s Child Safeguarding Policy.
  • Support country offices and partners in identifying and mitigating child safeguarding risks.
  • Ensure safeguarding is embedded in program design, implementation, and monitoring.

Others

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective implementation of the organization’s Child Protection, Safeguarding and Advocacy priorities.
  • Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.

Other Required Competencies

  • Fluency in Spanish required. Developing proficiency in English required.
  • Fluency in English and/or Portuguese is a plus.

  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and build technical capacity of national staff and specialists.
  • Skilled in strategic thinking, partnership development, and donor communications.
  • Collaborative and solutions-oriented with strong facilitation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work across time zones and cultures, fostering cohesion among global and regional teams.
  • Innovation mindset with ability to adapt strategies in dynamic contexts.
Other Criteria
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% in the Americas region.
