A Balanced Mixed Role

Gorey Veterinary Hospital is seeking a confident, experienced Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our established and friendly team in County Wexford. This role is ideally suited to a vet with a solid foundation in mixed practice who enjoys variety in their caseload, while primarily working within a small animal–led clinical environment.

Approximately 70% of the caseload is small animal, with the remaining 30% large animal, offering the opportunity to maintain and further develop farm animal skills without being overwhelmed by large animal commitments.

The Role

You will be involved in a varied and rewarding caseload, combining small animal consultations and surgery with large animal work including herd and flock health, fertility management, calvings, lambings, emergencies and TB testing. The small animal side of the role offers a busy clinical day with a good mix of consults and surgical procedures, supported by a collaborative and experienced team.

Work–life balance is a genuine priority here. Out-of-hours is shared with a neighbouring clinic, resulting in an excellent rota of 1 in 10 weekends and only 1–2 nights on-call in 10, with time off in lieu following weekends and Saturday mornings. Weekday shifts run from 8.30am–5.30pm or 10.30am–7.30pm, with Saturdays 9.30am–2.30pm.

You’ll work alongside supportive colleagues but will also be comfortable taking sole charge when required.

About You

This role suits a VCI-registered Veterinary Surgeon with at least a couple of years’s post graduate experience in mixed practice. You’ll be confident across routine consults, surgery and emergency work, with a professional, approachable manner and a genuine commitment to delivering high standards of patient and client care.

Strong communication skills, the ability to work well within a team, and confidence working independently when needed are all essential. While experience is preferred, we are open to considering vets at different stages of their career who can demonstrate the right clinical grounding and attitude.

Why Join Gorey Veterinary Hospital?

Our t raditional mixed veterinary with a long history of serving the community is located in the vibrant town of Gorey, just 45 minutes from Dublin and close to some of Wexford’s most beautiful beaches. The area offers an excellent quality of life, strong transport links, and a welcoming community.

The practice has benefited from significant recent investment, including new digital radiography, ultrasound and upgraded surgical equipment. You’ll be supported by a close-knit, sociable team of 4.5 vets, 2 nurses, 2 ACAs and 3 receptionists, all committed to collaboration, learning and high standards of care. We also work closely with the NWSPCA, providing essential neutering and veterinary care for animals in need.

Salary, Perks & Professional Support

In addition to a salary of up to €70,000 DOE, the role includes a company vehicle, relocation support of up to €5,000, and a welcome bonus of up to €5,000. You’ll also benefits from:
