A veterinary practice in Ireland is seeking a Veterinary Practitioner to join their team in Athlone. This role offers a competitive salary of up to €70,000 DOE, relocation allowance, and comprehensive benefits, including 22 days of annual leave and an annual CPD allowance of €1300. Ideal candidates will have VCI registration, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach. The practice supports a balanced work-life environment with flexibility in hours and ample opportunities for professional development.
If you’re looking for a role that offers genuine support, strong clinical standards, and a friendly, grounded team, while still giving you space to grow, Athlone Vet Hospital might be exactly what you’ve been searching for.
Whether you’re an experienced mixed practitioner or a newer vet eager to develop your skills, we offer a safe, well-resourced environment with mentorship, flexibility, and an incredible benefits package designed to set you up for success.
And if you’re considering a move? Athlone is one of Ireland’s best-kept secrets - affordable living, a vibrant town centre, stunning lakeside walks, great restaurants, and brilliant transport links (Dublin and Galway are both about an hour away). It’s the perfect balance of community, convenience, and adventure.
Athlone sits right at the centre of Ireland, making it an easy one-hour hop to Dublin or Galway, yet you still get the space, affordability, and community feel that big cities can’t match. Set along the River Shannon and home to Lough Ree, it’s a paradise for outdoor lovers, with kayaking, hiking, cycling routes, and lakeside walks all within minutes. The town itself has a thriving food scene (including Ireland’s oldest pub), great schools, shopping, and everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable life. For anyone considering relocation, Athlone offers that perfect mix of convenience, culture, and calm - plus we’ll support your move with a relocation allowance and welcome bonus.
This is a full-time permanent role with plenty of flexibility. We are happy to discuss part-time arrangements to suit your lifestyle if you are looking for something that is a bit more flexible.
Our typical full-time structure is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with one Saturday clinic every four weeks.
Out-of-hours is shared fairly among the team - two nights on call per week, plus a 1 in 4 rotation during spring and a quieter 1 in 8 schedule off-season. All OOH work is compensated with time off in lieu. Our caseload is roughly 60% small animal and 40% large animal, offering a good mix without feeling overwhelming.
Athlone Veterinary Hospital is a well-established, supportive practice located in Bonavalley on the old Dublin Road. Our hospital is fully equipped with digital radiology, ultrasound, Idexx blood analysers, endoscopy, dental equipment and all modern small-animal facilities you’d expect in a busy, progressive clinic. You’ll be joining a positive and collaborative team of four vets, two nurses, one ACA, a manager and a receptionist - all genuinely lovely people who take pride in both patient care and team wellbeing. It’s a friendly environment where you’ll be supported, encouraged and trusted to grow.
We’re open to experienced mixed vets as well as confident junior clinicians who are motivated to learn. A VCI registration (or eligibility), a full clean driving licence and solid communication skills are essential.
Above all, we’re looking for someone proactive and team focused. Someone who enjoys connecting with clients, supporting colleagues, and taking pride in their work.
We believe in supporting our people at every stage of their career and making sure they feel valued. Alongside a competitive salary, relocation support and a welcome bonus, you’ll enjoy:
