Description
A new opportunity is available for a Lead Mechanical Technician (G3) in the Maintenance Team at EP Langage Ltd on a temporary basis initially for one year, with potential for futher extensions for up to three years.
This role involves planning, performing, delegating, and supervising maintenance activities across the site to ensure the power station’s ongoing reliability and availability in the commercial market. Key objectives include delivering strong business value while ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards, as well as meeting company and statutory requirements.
The Lead Mechanical Technician will monitor, assess, and drive improvements in maintenance performance, efficiency, work package delivery, and planning. The role involves direct responsibility for maintaining and engineering plant equipment within their designated area, as assigned by the Production Team Leader.
Reporting to the Production Team Leader, the position requires aligning with team and section priorities, meeting agreed performance targets, and ensuring the quality and effectiveness of maintenance work. Responsibilities also include managing monthly budget expenditures and contributing to the annual station business plan for future investment. The authority for spending will be limited to the value specified by the Production Manager, including raising requisitions and approving expenses per the Delegations of Authority Matrix.
Additionally, this role requires engagement with external entities, such as technical consultants, contractors, and industry peers, to support collaborative and informed maintenance practices across the sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and co-ordinate work schedules for the maintenance team to ensure production availability and safety requirements of main power production plant and all auxiliary balance of plant equipment. This includes producing and adapting the work plan as necessary to ensure planned and corrective maintenance is carried out in an efficient manner and in line with the Maintenance strategy.
- Prepare work orders; ordering spares; completing risk assessments and identification of resources. This includes the identification of contractors from an approved list, compilation of their work specifications, monitoring of work standards on-site, conduct with respect to Health, Safety and Environmental issues and conducting a review of the quality of work on completion.
- Develop and improve the effectiveness of the Computerised Maintenance Management System (currently SAP). Use feedback and plant performance data to build and improve future maintenance requirements and standards.
- Monitor the health, safety and environmental implications of the planned work and take controlling actions to ensure that all work complies with necessary company and statutory regulations.
- Responsible for the technical specification, tender evaluation, and delivery of lower value contracts, monitoring performance and developing action plans for review by the contract Engineer.
- Deputise for the Production Team Leader during occasions of absence and leave. Lead the individual discipline team as the senior Technician, able to delegate tasks to his/her direct reports and work with the Production Team Leader to develop and drive strategy.
- Executes routine and non-routine maintenance activities in accordance with agreed procedures and operational requirements to ensure plant is operating safely, effectively, and efficiently. Ensures safe working practices and procedures are adhered to.
- Perform first line maintenance activities, with response to emergency/unscheduled situations in the event of abnormal incidents in order to protect plant and personnel ensuring compliancy with safety and environmental policies.
- Investigate complex technical problems relating to critical plant. Identify, diagnose and report defects within the plant utilising the Maintenance Management system. Defects are resolved whilst maintaining station performance and meeting operational targets by returning plant to normal operating service.
- Attendance and contribution to key workplace meetings as required by the Production Team Leader, such as outage, planning and scheduling meetings.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Background
- Experience within the power generation industry, or industry with transferrable skills. (essential).
- Familiar with the relevant technical and regulatory standards applicable to the maintenance & operation of mechanical systems (PSSR, PUWER, LOLER, etc) (essential).
- Competent in the use of the SAP maintenance management system, or similar (Maximo/etc) (desirable).

Qualifications
- Completed a recognised formal training programme or apprenticeship to achieve technician status (e.g. C&G parts I, II &III) (essential).
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering subject (essential).
- HNC or equivalent in an engineering subject (desirable).
