Job summary

A prominent social care organization located in Tipperary is looking for a Social Care Team Leader for their residential services for young individuals aged 15-17. You will support and advocate for marginalized youth, helping them navigate homelessness and prepare for independent living. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Social Care and direct work experience in the field. This full-time role requires managing a 24/7 roster while adhering to health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Care from a recognized institution.
  • Proven experience in a social care setting, ideally at project worker level.
  • Understanding of social issues affecting youth, particularly homelessness.

Social Care Team Leader, Under 18s Residential, The Haven, South East

Location: Tipperary

Contract: Full Time, Specific Purpose contract

The purpose of this role is to provide short-term accommodation to young people, aged 15‑17, who have been displaced from their home.

What You Will Do
  • Work within Focus Ireland’s objectives, values, and policies, following guidance from management.
  • Act as a key worker for young people and collaborate with external agencies on referrals.
  • Develop individualised programmes to help clients break the cycle of homelessness and prepare for independent living or move‑on placements.
  • Provide support to young people who have experienced trauma or present challenging behaviour.
  • Advocate for clients on housing, welfare, education, training, and legal rights.
  • Maintain and update individual placement plans in line with statutory care plans.
  • Refer and support young people in accessing external services for personal, social, educational, and accommodation needs.
  • Keep accurate records in compliance with statutory and health safety requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training; work closely with other Focus Ireland projects.
  • Commit to a 7‑day, 24‑hour roster and adhere to all Health Safety regulations.
What You Will Need
  • A Third level Degree in Social Care.
  • Proven direct work experience in a social care setting at a project worker level or equivalent.
  • Experience of supporting marginalized clients/groups preferably adolescents.
  • A working knowledge and insight into the social issues that affect young people, in particular young people, who have or are experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to manage and support clients in crisis who present with challenging behaviours based on the values and principles of best practice in Focus Ireland.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection.
  • Experience of key working, assessments and care planning.
  • Excellent report writing and IT skills.
  • A working knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model. (Desirable)
  • A working knowledge and understanding of the National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres. (Desirable)
