Senior Medical Scientist (Biochemistry)

(Full time, 1 year fixed-term)

The laboratory encompasses Biochemistry, Microbiology, Point of Care, Coagulation and ISO 15189:2022 accredited Haematology, Blood Transfusion specialities.

We have a vacancy for a full time, 1 year fixed term Senior Medical Scientist (Biochemistry) position to join our friendly, supportive laboratory team and contribute to the development and expansion of our service and hospital. Our medium-sized multidisciplinary laboratory provides the opportunity for the development of skills and knowledge across disciplines facilitating skills development and career progression.

Candidate Requirements
  • Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree or equivalent
  • Be CORU-registered Medical Scientist.
  • Eligible for membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine
  • Evidence of current technical competence and CPD in Biochemistry
  • Experience of ISO15189 (essential) and JCI hospital accreditation (desirable)
  • Have a minimum of 4 years full time experience as a Medical Scientist
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient-centered and can-do approach
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and collaborative
  • Team player who is also able to work on their own initiative
  • Possess one of the following NFQ level 9 post graduate qualifications or equivalent qualification at a minimum level 9 validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM) :
  • MSc Clinical Laboratory Science, Dublin Institute of Technology or Technological University Dublin.
  • MSc Biomedical Science, University of Ulster
  • MSc Biomedical Science – Cork Institute of Technology/University College Cork
  • MSc Biomedical Science – Munster Technological University/University College Cork
  • An equivalent qualification at minimum level 9 validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)
  • A fellowship of the ACSLM awarded before July 2018 or have attained the fellowship examination of the Institute of Biomedical Science (Awarded prior to 1999).
