Overview

Join to apply for the Senior Marine Consultant role at APEM Group. AQUAFACT (part of the APEM Group) is looking for a Senior Marine Consultant to join our team of marine science and environmental consultancy specialists. We deliver evidence-based solutions that help clients balance development with protecting marine ecosystems.

Role

As Senior Marine Consultant, you will play a leading role in the delivery of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Appropriate Assessment (AA), Natura Impact Statement (NIS), Marine Usage Licence (MUL) applications and Dumping at Sea (DaS) applications across projects in offshore energy, ports and harbours, aquaculture, and coastal developments. You will take ownership of technical report writing and review, ensuring reports are delivered to the highest standard and provide evidence-based advice to clients. From the early scoping stages through to completion, you will liaise with regulators, engineers, stakeholders, and project partners, ensuring effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Alongside technical work, you will contribute to tendering, proposals, and budget management, helping secure and deliver projects that support sustainable marine development. You will also mentor and support junior colleagues, helping to grow skills and capacity within the consultancy team (including personal development).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review Marine Usage Licence (MUL) and Dumping at Sea (DaS) applications
  • Lead technical report writing and ensure high-quality, evidence-based outputs
  • Coordinate with regulators, engineers, stakeholders, and project partners throughout the project lifecycle
  • Contribute to tendering, proposals, and budget management
  • Mentor and support junior colleagues to build team skills and capacity
To Be Successful In This Role, You’ll Need
  • A degree (Level 8 or higher) in marine science, ecology, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 12 months of experience within a planning, government, or environmental consultancy
  • Demonstrated experience delivering EIA and AA reporting (including NIS)
  • Strong technical report writing skills (desktop studies, literature reviews)
  • Good working knowledge of Irish and EU wildlife and planning legislation (e.g., Habitats Directive, WFD, MSFD, Marine Usage Licence, aquaculture licence, Dumping at Sea licence)
  • Excellent organisational skills, initiative, and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong communication skills for client and stakeholder engagement
  • GIS experience
