The Naval Service is seeking skilled Maintenance Engineers and Technicians to join as Direct Entry Engine Room Artificers. Join the Naval Service as a Direct Entry Engine Room Artificer (Maintenance Engineer / Technician)

Please note: Interviews and fitness testing will take place onsite at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork.

We are now recruiting qualified Maintenance Engineers and Technicians to join as Direct Entry Engine Room Artificers (ERAs). In this role, you'll maintain and repair critical onboard systems including propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary machinery. Duties include preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, and participation in emergency response operations at sea.

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Irish citizen or legally entitled to work in Ireland
  • Character & Fitness: Must meet medical, physical, and security clearance standards
  • Age: 18–39 years on the date of application
  • Qualifications (or national equivalent):
    • HETAC Level 7 in Marine or Mechanical Engineering
    • QQI Advanced Certificate Craft in:
      • Mechanical Automation & Maintenance Fitting
      • Diesel Fitting
      • Motor Mechanics
    • Department of Marine & Natural Resources Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) Certificate of Competency

Recruitment Process:

Includes a fitness test, competency-based interview, medical exam, and Garda vetting

Location: All assessments conducted at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork

Salary & Benefits:

  • Basic salary: €49,543 with annual increments
  • Naval Service Allowance: €20,570 (tax-free)
  • Additional allowances for overseas service: Starting at €15,000
